I'm Leslie Baumann, M.D., and I'm delighted that you've joined me in a skin care revolution.

Did you know that those well-known skin types - dry, oily, combination, and sensitive - were actually devised in the early 1900s? We live in a world of cell phones and hybrid vehicles (and, of course, blogs!), but many people haven't updated their routines to benefit from scientific advances in skin care, advances that go well beyond the original skin types.

In fact, studies show that as many as 80 percent of people incorrectly assess their skin, meaning that the products they purchase are often useless, counter-productive, or even harmful.

The traditional skin type categories aren't wrong; they just don't go far enough in capturing a true picture of your skin. In my role as Professor of Dermatology at the University of Miami, I research many breakthrough products, treatments, and ingredients, and I've worked with thousands of patients.

I quickly noticed that four factors emerge when evaluating any skin type, and I used those four factors to develop the revolutionary skin typing system I've perfected over the past 10 years.

I strongly believe that even the most difficult skin doesn't require more than a four-step skin care regimen. Even better, you don't have to spend a fortune on products to look great! I'm here to offer honest, unbiased answers to common challenges and help you understand your skin and treat it right. Join me next time for more on the four parameters in my skin typing system - let's take the guesswork out of skin care.

Wishing you great skin!
