Vulvodynia? This is the first time I've ever heard of this condition...Interesting. I feel for someone who has it, because it sounds like they may find it hard to enjoy sex, because of the pain in the vulva area. Thank goodness there is some help out there, because sex is a wonderful, pleasurable experience, especially when shared by two people who are madly in Love.

Last year I developed this. I usually wear skirts during the summer and in the fall and winter I wear pants. Last year, when I started wearing pants, I itched, I hurt, and I thought I was going to lose my mind. I went to several doctors. They didn't know what was wrong. Finally, I just stopped wearing pants, shaved everthing down there, and I wear really soft cotton underwear now. Now that it is fall, I thought mabye I could wear pants for a couple of hours. No! I can never go back. I have minor symptoms and I am waiting for them to recede. I am just glad I have been able to find a name for it!

#9 why is that women always get told that any issues they have "down there" is all in their heads? it might be simple to label vuvlodyina as a emotional manifestation of some previous trauma but that is hardly a helpful or novel idea. if men had chronic pain in their penises, i highly doubt they would be satisfied by the answer "IT'S ALL IN YOUR HEAD!"

Dear Chrissy... If it makes you feel any better, believe me, men get their shares of pains down there too. I concur with traceofanasazi, from teenage boys to very old men, we get ours too! But we dont like to talk about it much, so maybe you don't hear about it. I speak from first hand experience. As a teenage boy, my experiences with "blue balls" were very, very painful at times. Yeah, its a thrill to go parking with your girl when you're 16. But when males don't experience a climax, the resulting cramps and pains an hour or two later are VERY real and VERY strong. Also, when I was 17, I got an bacterial infection from keeping a condom on too long after orgasm. At first I felt just a little discomfort, and didnt know what it was. But one night the infection really hit me, and I was doubled over in terrible pain. The worst pain in my life actually. I could not even walk, my dad literally had to carry me into the ER room. Do you know what it's like, being 17 and explaining to a strange ER (and female!) Dr. that, YES, I had been having sex, and using condoms, with your DAD there, listening?! And YES, he was not very pleased!! Not a fun experience!. So when it comes to female aches and pains, YES, most guys can relate, trust me!!

I have had vulvodynia and was told it was all in mny head until they found i had PID, pelvic inflammatory disease. this was back in the 80's when you didn't hear much about PID. I say dont go to a man doctor for trouble down there. It was a woman doctor finally found my problem and I was on antibiotics for over 2 years before it was under control. Men doctors don't understand that we know when something is wrong with us!

As sex is presumed to be so great, why are there so many problems, both physical and emotional?? Is this Nature's way of imposing birth control? We certainly need it.
