Hearing the baby's heart beat for the first time can be an emotional moment -- proof of life growing inside of you, and a strong indication that you will not miscarry. A baby is on the way.

But if you are at your OB's office and you hear the fetal heartbeat for the first time and no one from your family is there to share it with you, it can be a bittersweet moment. Here's an idea I read about this morning: if you have a cell phone, call your loved one and leave it on voicemail.

So the next time you hear the heartbeat in the office, have your cell phone ready, and ask your doctor or midwife if you can make a quick call. Easy as that!
