Way to go, Christine! Such a physically and financially costly habit that, if unchecked, would certainly transfer to adulthood...

Thank God there's isn't a Starbucks across from my kids school, I'm sure that it would be tempting for them to go by there everyday, and I'm sure that would be the "it" thing to do. But, I would be one of those Mom's that would prohibit my child to even step foot in the doorway of that place. Not only would I have to give them lunch money everyday, but "coffee money to?" Oh, no way!!!

Oh my gosh! When I saw the headline I assumed you meant high schoolers! Starbucks should refuse to serve these kids unless accompanied by an adult! Where are their parents? My kids don't go out running aruund after school by themselves.

Holy Cow! Where are their parents? My kids don't go running around after school by themselves. When I saw the headline I thought it would be about high schoolers, middle schoolers at the most. Starbucks should refuse to serve them without an adult accompanying them.

I am curious to know if the drinks are caffienated or not because starbucks does sell a double chocolate chip frappuccino that is caffeine free.

when i think of starbucks i think of a crack house.... this starbucks thing is like a legal drug.. people are willing to wait in line for hours because of this stuff. i believe its a chemical in that coffee to make people come back for more. Bc if people enjoy the "coffee" itself they woudn't mind going to mickey d's or a 7 eleven to get a cup. yes i do enjoy starbucks but it's not that serious!!! come on ppl

They will all be diabetics, before their time. This must be squashed.

You know! It is amazing just how we can be stupid sometimes, but in reality it is so true. I can agree with this article 100%. Great explanations!!

I suppose it would be better if they were all gathering behind the gym with a pack of cigarettes or perhaps a bottle of liquor, maybe some pot? High calorie, yes, caffeine, maybe yes, maybe no, but there is a plethora of more harmful things they could be doing.

My daughter is 14 and I noticed her friends and her getting Starbucks if they are up that way on their bikes. It seems to be the new trend. I'm glad she only has one about once a month, but I think it's important that she understands what it's doing to her body.

common sense has to prevail here... order a tall instead of a venti and get half the calories and caffiene

it's a wonderful blog! thank you. i work at starbucks, and there's one thing i'd like to add. a lot of caffeine conscientious parents allow their children to consume the non-coffee blended creme frappaccinos. i think it should be noted that the strawberries and creme is VERY popular, and the venti carries a whopping 750 calories (with whipped cream), 120 grams of sugar, and 135 carbs. non-coffee drinks are dangerous to our children too, so beware.

Maybe they were getting the cream based frapps, not the coffee based ones. Either way, still high calories and pricey! But it's not alcohol, and there is no age limit, so parents need to be responsible for what their grade schoolers are doing after school. If I had tried this as a kid, my mom would have been in there spanking me and making me go home, and I would not have tried it a second time.
