Okay, excellent piece. But what do you do if your guy just clams up? Doesn't talk at all? The silent treatment? It is very infuriating to me. Puppy-dog eyes looking at you like "what are you mad about?"

My guy's fighting style is the "old school patriarch" and his passive-aggressive ways are definetly frustrating! It is hard to trust someone after an argument when they try to punish you by NOT making up with you!

I think that you have a good generalization now how do we argue effectively??? Mine I guess is the Surfer Laid back It is annoying becuz he will never put in his two cents or change the subject if feelings come up. Then if I get too frustrated and push to much he blows (no harm) but it's almost like a baby throwing a tantrum. In the end nothing was accomplished and I still have no idea what his thoughts were. Blah I think he needs therapy myself to learn how to deal with emotions.

Like this article, can't say my old mans fighting style is really on here. He kinda mixes it up a bit. Really easy to just not waste time fighting though. Life's to short.

How about all the fights that happen because she pours out her trouble or frustration, and when you suggest a solution she shoots it down and gets mad. Usually because (she says) you are trying to tell her what to do or figure she's too stupid to solve it herself. Hey, ladies: it's what guys do! Give him a problem, he'll try to fix it, especially if he cares. Why should men change their character of being problem-solvers if you don't have to change yours of sharing your emotions just because? Understand and accept that men will try to solve your problem and their will be a lot fewer fights. At least from men who were raised to be gentlemen. Otherwise they wouldn't care.

When my husband and I have our discussions, his style of discussion (or fighting ;if you will) is to be quite matter of factly, and thats the way he feels but thats not law....We dont fight though, so you cant really call it fighting....Its more like discussing like I said.

oh and btw I am not like any of the women that have been described in any of these posts....I donot order my husband around...and I donot ask him loaded questions...lol...I expect him to tell me the truth, and I accept what he tells me without freaking out....Its pretty simple..Our marriage is pretty straight forward and honest, not to mention lots of compromise and discussion.

My husband and I don't usually fight. But when we have a heated discussion and he raises his voice I counter it with a mellow and passive voice. And when I'm the one in the fighting mood, he talks to me like he is pacufying a child. Sometimes it's frustrating when he is like that but it works for us. We don't meet fire with fire, so to speak.

It's better for a couple to learn how to fight effectively before they get involved or married than to learn afterward and end up getting divorced. If you can't speak up and tell each other what's on your mind, then you're heading for trouble. Relationships are more than bliss, each has ups and downs, and it will survive if it's based on true friendship and caring about the other person's needs instead of your own.

Our disagreements rarely get heated. When there is a dispute we vent, and agree to disagree. My best girlfriend and I have the same relationship minus the sex and any voice raising. We disagree and have a cocktail.
