Anyone who takes celebrity (publicity) relationships as a model to follow for their own, deserves to suffer the same fate. And heeeeeeeck no!!!!! There is nothing to be learned from such idiotic, unrealistic, and troubled "stars". Plus, this article defeats itself by using those same relationships as the source of the lesson, when it is stating that they might be what's ruining your love life. Wow! Talk about not taking responsibility for your own mistakes, of course, it's all because of the celebrities. How retarded is that!!!

I really liked this article, and usually cheverejd, I really agree with most of what you say in response to this blog. But not this time. I meant to tell you that the last time David posted. Out of curiosity, are you male, or female? ANYWAY, my point being that Davide has a really good take on this. We are so star struck, and so addicted to celebrity in this nation, that alot of people, who have an increasingly difficult time distinguishing between reality and Hollywierd, are taking thier cues from television, movies, and magazines, instead of from the foundation laying values that they were suppossed to learn from thier competent adult parents. Unfortunately, the traditional family unit in this country is no longer the norm, but rather the exception. And because of that sad fact, in the absence of moral guidelines from loving parents and adults, that are based on something OTHER than the media frenzy, people turn to whatever is screaming the loudest in thier lives. And for too many people, that's the celebs, and hype surrounding them. My point being that David draws a distinctive line between hype and reality here. Well done.

My folks havn't had sex in years the celeberties don't do anything for them. Maybe if they know a celeberty that theach them a thing or two. I'm not married but dosen't mean I think about it and dosen't mean there isn't any one out there for me. All because the celeberties are doing it dosn't mean I'm about go out there and find someone and have a relationship that peticlar reason. I need someone for love and like me for me. I don't need a celeberty how to get it and tell me all about love and sex. I can get it once the right person comes along. Some people are luckly in love dosen't mean that I'm not. Right now I don't someone in my life for the moment. I got my family for right now to keep me company. Once find someone that makes me jump on a couch even though I a woman and Tom Cruse is a man that jump on a couch for his wife, dosen't mean a woman finds someone that she mainly in love with wouldn't ither. Hey that will be a good one. The first woman to jump on a couch when their in love with someone. It might or might not be me. It might be another celeberty jumping on a couch for a man. Once I do I'll say cool a woman jumped on couch because she's in love with a speical type of guy that makes feel loved and spiecal. So let some of those celeberties show there love someone they love any they can if they want let people just as I say good for you and I am happy for you and way to go. It may effect me or it may not effect me at all. I just know it dosn't effect my folks at all. They need help to were they can rekindle thier love for one another. Once they do rekindle thier love for one anther everyone can get on with thier lives and be happy for a change. I would like see them happy for a change. Seeing them missirable and bitter, makes me missirable but not bitter and this starting to stress me out. So there you have it. The celeberties don't effect my love ones not at all. I wish they did but they don't. Hey this just my opinon but it also the facts. It's just plain boring here at my folks house nobody is happy in this household. I beleive the celeberties have they could share with my folks so they get back the love they ounce have so they can be happy ounce more. Maybe if they have sex ounce in a while maybe they be happy, but that dosen't mean they wind up happy overnight or in weeks time but it will spurce up thier love life and get on thier life as usual but with happyness and missery and bitterness, that they are haveing. It makes me sad to see thier missery and bitterness every day and every night. So seeing the celeberties express thier love in my home on the televison it dosen't even phase my folks at all. All the love they see in the celeberties just turn them off and not on, but I wish it did. That way I can here some good news coming out thier mouths. Letting me know that they still have the fire burning in them, will make me happy for them because they are happy and not misserable and bitter all of time. See that they are still in love with one anthor, will help me get on my life and I won't feel so sad to them every day, because with happy and the love will make this house a happy home. That's all I have to say, I just ran out other things to say when comes to celeberties showing thier love in my home through my tv. I wouldn't mind hereing more celeberties expressing thier love on the news or on a talk show. I think it's kind a cool to here about it on tv. I reather here a celeberty express his or her love on tv, that to me is good news and we need more good news and not bad news on the air. I'm tierd of hereing here about the death of celeberties and about the war over in irag. So let the celeberties express thir love on tv and get on with you life. We more good news. I like to see people to express thier love that what make me happy because I seeing other people happy.

#4 aimee - I'm a man, to answer your question. You may not agree with me on this one, but I agree with the point that you brought. It is truly sad that people don't have anyone to look up to anymore, so, as you very eloquently put it, they look up at whatever screams out the loudest, the celebrities. But still, just walking out the door of your home, you can see that the world is not a reality show or a movie, so I still think that is a litlle farfetched to see life through the eyes of entertainment, so I find it really hard to have it excused.

There is no denying it, we DO get messages from advertising, pop-culture, and even those dreaded “famous people” on the television screen. They are presented to us as a norm, a standard to attempt to live up too. And as silly as some of you seem to find it, many people do emulate what they see – in this case, relationships – good or bad. David brings up some good points, because although these are people subjected to the voyeuristic needs of American culture on a daily basis… they are still people. Held to the same standards of mistake and decision making as we are, and just as able to learn from their decisions as the general populace. What girl hasn’t secretly dreamed that a Tom Cruise-esque male would appear on national television jumping on a couch to declare his love? And what boy hasn’t wished that his Angelina Jolie look-alike work partner would hit on him, even though he’s married? It is human nature to want what the great-ones have, and it is David’s brilliance which points out why these wants may be bad for us!

#8 - I disagree with what you say about celebrities being held by the same standards as the rest of us. Tell me, when was the last time they got fired from a job for being late? When did they have a fight over their finances with their husband or wife? When was the last time they had any stress over the chores of the house getting done and by who? No, they are not held by the same standards as the rest of us, who have to work to pay the rent, clean our houses, be on time to work because that whole being late to make a grand entrance doesn't work, and so many other things that bring about many confrontations between couples. When was the last time that they had to juggle between car payments, rent, groceries, credit card bills and baby formulas and diapers? Sorry, but I disagree; real life and relationships are made of more than just showing up for an award ceremony with a dress made specifically for you. Or do you think that they had to give up their dreamed wedding dress for a less expensive one because they were short on money?

Short answer: No. Oh, and Angelina is not one of the two prettiest people on the planet. I don't know about Brad... Put me in the "could care less" about this category.

I feel that celebrity relationships are too flighty and make a joke about marrage. Marriage is a life-long commitment so when childern are born they have support. I won't use celebrities as role models because I have values that are important to me and my parents are a far better couple then the ones on TV
