Unfortunately, a recent huge study did not find dietary lutein and zeaxanthin to be protective against age-related macular degeneration. Avoidance of smoking is still thought to be protective. -Steve Parker, M.D., author of "The Advanced Mediterranean Diet" Reference: Prospective study of lutein/zeaxanthin intake and risk of age-related macular degeneration, in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Vol. 87 (2008), pp.1837-1843

I am a vegatarian so this article does not mean much to me. Although the point of poor nutrition is well taken. I believethat the method of cooking is awfully important in the final nurtrional value of any food. Something should be said about this too when specifiying foods. It is my experience that most people who are eating the right basic foods still are very sick eventually becuase their cooking orrecipes are faulty.

I didn't know this was match.com. Oh, back to the article....I eat carrots, broccoli, turkey and salmon pretty regularly; however, I have been experiencing a lot of blurriness in my sight lately.

This article offers excellent advice regarding eating WILD salmon... Always ask your grocer if the salmon in their case is wild or farmed. If farmed, you might want to stay away from it given the reports of dyes used to make the flesh 'salmon' color, antibiotics fed the fish to protect them from a variety of diseases, and the poor taste due to eating pellets instead of feeding on smaller fish from the open ocean.

macular degeneration is a combination of genes that are pre-scripted to deteriorate the macula; and the accumulation of fat which clogs the surrounding cappillaries that supply the macula with nutrition. So eat a low fat diet. Stay thin and fit, and hope that none of your relatives have black spots before their eyes.

Do I need to point out that EGGS have the highest dietary source of lutein & zeaxanthin. It's also a fact that nutrients from animal based foods are better assimilated than those of plants. Then again, no amount of spinach omlettes will help your eyes if your frying them in bright sun.
