Also, just doing something as simple as cutting out soft drinks/sodas (I know...that's my particular brand of poison lol ), you can trim an unbelievable amount of calories from your daily intake. I used to drink 3 20-ounce sodas a day, which most people probably buy them thinking they're one serving per bottle. They're not, one 20 ounce soda (the size they sell at my college food court) is equal to 2 1/2 servings. 1 serving=250 calories, so one 20 ounce soda is 625 calories! And if you drink 2-3 of those per day (and I know alot of people who do), that's an extra 1050-1875 calories per day, without any nutrition at all. (diet sodas are really no better, they may not have the calories of regular soda, but the artificial sweeteners they use have been proven in study after study to make people gain weight...stick to water, juice, tea, even coffee is better than soda, provided you don't load the coffee with sugar and cream.) Also, cut out fried foods alone and you'll be amazed at the results. if you cook for yourself, anything you can fly in a pan you can cook in the oven. I still eat hamburgers and hot dogs...but I bake them in the oven, the fat drains out into the pan, and they're far juicier and more tender than they would be if I'd fried them. Bake, steam, broil, boil, and stir-fry using a little soy sauce, lemon juice, or even water, and you'd be amazed at the calories and fat you can cut out. And for those who have to eat out, most menus now include at least a few baked or steamed options ^_^

Although cutting calories is part of the process, we also have to look at the nutritional value of what we eat. What helped me lose weight is eating foods rich in fiber. Fiber helps regulate your digestive system but also helps regulate blood sugar - and high blood sugar has a high correlation with weight gain. The problem with too many "diet" and "lowfat" foods are that they are made up of artificial ingredients and not enough natural minerals and vitamins.

This offer very good, logical information for those watching thier calorie intake. Too many times there is the "dont eat" mind set, but though a calmer look at the problem of losing some weight, self disapline can also be improved.
