mackussamantha Sounds like you have lactose intolarence taht's causing your problem. I had these same symptoms before I gave up dairy and gluten. Try giving up at least the dairy for a few weeks to see if it helps. Or if you don't want to give up dairy try taking Lactaid before eating any dairy products. Let us know.

I have not been diagnosed with anything, however, heartburn is a daily pain for me. I have been drinking diet 7-up (1-2 a day) and I haven't have heartburn the 1st time. For the last year I have taken an average of 1 Pepcid a day, so this is unbeleivable to me that a simple beverage can offer so much comfort. Also, I have been eating Italian foods, Jalapeno's and anything elase that always causes heartburn for me just to see how well 7 up works and I still haven't ahd the slightest symptom.

Thank you for your comment regarding eating what YOU can tolerate when deling with the symptoms of Gerd. I have not been diagnosed with Gerd but have all the classic symptoms at random. I will pay closer attention to food and beverage choices that trigger my symptoms and stop looking for the one size fits all solution.

THanks Mackussamantha! My favorite store does not have 7-up so I get the canned ginger ale when I'm out and it's also great. I'm still heartburn free!!!

I am 22 years old. I started throwing up coffee about a year ago.Only cofffe and within the first few sips. It doesn't happen everyday . Sometimes a few days at a time and sometimes maybe once a month.I went to the doctor but they wanted $1000 to take the test.I thought it was my nerves from leaving my job of 6 years but I still get it. It seems to happen more often early in the morning vs. getting up at 9a.I don't taste any acid and once I throw up my stomach burns, but I can go right back to drinking coffee with no problems. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Do what works for you - everyone is different and we all react differently - thanks for nothing to people that have offered their opinions is rather harsh!

Think about this. The human race was living a surivival of the fittest lifestyle for millions of years before the last half milennium, where supposedly "our" history began. They ate whatever they could, nuts and berries, sand and insects. Do you think you are lucky to be eating McDonalds every day breakfast lunch and dinner? There were no McDonalds on the desert where the Aboringines live(d). They ate what was provided for them. in fact, if they were lucky enough to capture a giant iguana, they praise and thank the gods for thier generosity. Next time you are in line at Micky D's ordering your usual Number 5 Super Size, will your future ancestors be as fortunate as you are to eat as much as you? GERD is a result of eating excessively or something your body cannot easily tolerate. Please admit to yourself that this is the case so that next time you might consider having the basic minimum. Try a yam with some fruit at lunch instead of your 5 piece KFC chicken grease lunch. Yes, thats your stomach saying thank you for once in your life and no, its no coincidence you felt more energy and had a better afternoon.

I'm quite young and hate the fact that I often have heartburn. I find it comes from stress - especially if I am stressed when I eat my meal. Please, make mealtime a calm, relaxed affair in your house. Tums and Rolaids also helps to have nearby. Interesting about the spearmint and tomato sauce, I never knew that. I agree that you shouldn't lie down after meals, very important.

Many of us have killed off the good bacteria that helps digestion when we have needed to take antibiotics...If you replace them with a good probiotic supplement or a healthy yogurt with live cultures before breakfast and lunch, your digestion can improve...

Joy's recommendation is correct! For those of you who got relief for using for "snake oil" methods, congratulations! She is a registered dietitian & deals with diet on a daily basis, so I'm sure she knows what she is talking about. If you need more definitive information, go to www.guidelines.gov and type "GERD" in the search window (also pay attention to the date because guidelines change as treatment protocols change); this is a resource for published treatment guidelines for health care professionals. I also recommended talking to your health care providers if symptoms are troublesome or severe before using any methods found on the internet.

I agree with most of the dietary recommendations posted to help with the GERD "symptoms". However, the spincter muscle in question is under the control of the nervous system. If the nerve to the muscle becomes pinched/irritated thru subluxation, then the symptoms of GERD can easily occur. In these cases, Chiropractic can easily correct the "cause" of the problem. I have seen dozens of patients get good relief over the past 25 years of practice. If you have tried everything else, Chiropractic would sure be worth a try!
