Joy, you suggested to try low calorie/diet mixers, which are loaded with aspartame. I can't believe you would suggest that someone drink that crap. I work in a Doctors office, and I have seen first hand what artificial sweetners can do to someone. That stuff stays in your system, and it has been proven to cause cancer. It's a whole lot better to suggest to someone to drink "pure" sugar in small amounts, than to suggest drinking artificial sweetners.

The problem with the succesful dieticians is that most were educated about nutrition in the 80s when the low fat craze was in full force. Language like "artery clogging fat of cream and butter..." is ridiculous. The fat in these foods do not clog your arteries. Your body fat clogs your arteries not food fats. Insulin stores fat in your body. If you are already overweight, when your insulin levels are out of wack from eating high carb foods, then you are more likely to store fat. Ditch the carbs, eat whole foods, keep the fat and you will lose weight. I have done this exact thing and never felt better.

Rhonda L your right on the money when you say dietitians were educated when the low fat craze was in full force. I too fell into that mindset when I was going to school to become a diet technician. Thankfully for my health I have seen the light and now eat low sugar/low carb and feel great!! Insulin levels in your body are a better indicator of how healthy your heart is not cholesterol levels. Also shame on all the health care professionals for pushing diet foods loaded with artificial sweeteners.

This info was good, however too general. You need to be more specific using brand names. I think there is a big difference when using specific brands.
