    I have always heard that red wine is good for the heart but did know why, until I read the health benefits of wine by Joy Bauer, then I got to know about resveratrol,and the qauntity of wine to be taken by men and women.I have been Educated by this.

    Thanks, but I kind of already knew the health benefits from wine. Wine also helps you sleep better at night, and drinking a small amount, is much better than taking sleeping pills (addictive.)

    You can substitue grape juice for wine. Research studies in the past have shown that for people who are averse to alcohol- grape juice is just as potent in reducing the risk of heart disease as red wine. (Obviously red wine comes from red grapes) By eating red or dark grapes 6-8 ounces a day you can get the same cardioprotective effect. Also it should be known that alcohol is a direct depressent on the heart. People who consume alcohol in large quantaties can develop weakening of the heart muscle.     About one third of the population of North America does not drink alcohol. The remaining 2/3s tend to consume 20 to 30 drinks per week. The point is that people who drink generally drink too much but consider themselves light to moderate drinkers. The average drinker is a heavy drinker. It is regrettable that column intended to be for positive health is promoting something that is clearly not healthy. How about suggesting grape juice, cranberry juice and blueberrys for a source of resveratrol without the toxins of ethanol or sulfites? The headline is certainly promoting drinking and fuels denial about alcohol's toxic effects to body, mind and spirit. I'm disappointed in this blog entry by someone who should know better.

    I have always been a skeptic on drinking wine but you've cleared up that for me. I can now enjoy that much needed glass of red wine or white zifandel after work.

    i am 71 yrs. old, and i occationally drink wine ( the red one, by CARLO de ROSSI) after i have red meat in my meal. i believe it is beneficial to the system when really taken in moderation, just one "cupita" per meal.
