My grandson is 10 years old and weigh 203 lbs.He plays football with his senior league for his age but he dose not lose any weight. He does not eat a whole lot but he eat mostly fast food with his Mom. And with his dad he eats sort of well balance food. What can I do as a 3 night a week grandma? You see he stays with me when his father goes to work.

What great comments! - I am a new viewer and also a registered dietitian (nutritionalist with a 4 yr degree). Lifestyle changes include eating balanced meals and getting enough physical activity. The American Dietetic Association's website is eatright.org you will be able to find a dietitian in your area. Other sources: American Heart Assoc, American Diabetes Assoc, Community Cooperative Extentions, may want to check out stayfit.org, for questions on digestion visit gicare.com, Also: Kraft Foods has wonerful recipes kraftfoods.com and weight watches has no cost newsletter. The list is quite long, however I will try to post my favorites in future comments. Hope everyone has a great safe & healthy Halloween.

Dieting is very popular nowadays in countries with rich meals and fast foods high in calories. Japanese green tea is preferable to any kind of diet drinks or special teas that might be sold as a dieting strategy. Japanese green tea has no calories and is drunk without sugar. In fact if green tea is drunk after a meal its tannin content improves the function of fat-degrading enzymes. Tea can also alleviate hunger while providing vitamins and minerals that diet drinks cannot. For starters check out www.sakurateahouse.com

I agree that there has to be a family philosophy for healthy eating habits that is consistent. I also want to point out that modeling cooking behaviors is of vital importance and on a consistent basis. Eating out or buying prepared foods should be the exception to the rule if we are to model healthy eating patterns for our kids. Children are not learning that cooking at home is the healthy way to go in our prepared food/take-out culture. Alma from www.takebackthekitchen.com
