Possibly the dumbest article I ever read. Is the author a real person? Because this is just the same common sense quotes I have read for the past forty years. This article took about thirty seconds of research and three minutes to write. Possibly next time do some research, and than name actual diets on the market that you fine inappropriate.

Saying that you can't exercise because of back or knee problems is an excuse. There are several people at my gym who have severe physical problems but find a way to exercise. Water exercise (swimming, aerobics, jogging) is one type that works for people with all kinds of limitations. There are also chair exercise classes. Pills are not the answer, activity and healthy eating habits are.

That is the best advice I have ever heard. I have had a weight problem all my life and learned that there is no "magic bullet" very early, in my teens. I have followed your advice throughout my adult life and have been able to maintian and control my weight by eating healthy and above all excercise, excercise.

Sure this article is common sense but plenty of people still try fad diets and magic pills so clearly not everyone understands the reality.

i dont agree with your article. I've lost 68 kg (!!) in 8,5 months time. I have more muscle tissue than fat. With a great diet,of Dr Cohen, calles the first personal diet. Its just a matter of imbalance of hormones, why we are overweight, nothing to do with unwillingness of lack of power. Its a failure of the body, and by normal food, the hormones will work the right way. I've lost in the 4 first months 11 kg per month!! I am healtier then ever. I run, ride horse, i walk on high heels all day! I have a new life. I am the living prove it works ! Do you want information about this ? contact me on caroline.ruiters@tele2allin.be . Will you come with me on your trip to a new life? you are welcome!

Spounds reasonable. I would like to add to #4. Diets that are extremely low in calories leave you STARVING and very, very open to binging. Then you feel bad about yourself and your lack of willpower, when really you're battling your survival instincts! I've lost 13 pounds so far- thanks to several meals a day, healthy eating and not sitting on the couch for hours on end. Yay!

there are so many diets out there. I think if people just use portion control they can eat everything they want with out gaining weight. you can then eat what you want just eat the right serving size.

I've lost 66 pounds in a year. I did it by increasing fruits and veg, water instead of soda, and moderate excersise. I do allow myself treats, but at a minimum. Losing weight is all about getting a different mind set and getting off your butt!

What amazes me is that people still want the "easy" way out. Instant gratification. No such thing. To look fit and healthy, you must start to address the inner body. (What is causing you to eat the way you are? If you eat out of depression, ask why? Maybe you never finished school and that is weighing on you. Start to take one class at the local community college. There is something deeper that causes us to eat. Bottom line: EAT LESS, MOVE MORE. IT'S AN ACCOUNTING THING.

Amen...I have friends I try to make understand the diets listed above are so unhealthy and dangerous. The just won't listen to the fact that if you eat a healthy diet and exercise the weight will come off. Not as fast as they want it to, but it will come off.

My best diet has been to eat just until I am satisfied not stuffed which is usually 1/2 of a restaurant meal. I take the other 1/2 for lunch the next day. I also cut out sweets and eat mostly chicken or vegetables at every meal. Very little red meat. Look at the people eating all-you-can-eat buffets and you will notice they tend to be a bit overweight.

We live in a quick fix society. Give me now. As long as people want a quick way to lose weight, there will always be quacks out to take your money. Helen

The truth is losing weight is actually "work" and everyone wants a quick fix and that's basically what the article states. I would never say it's garbage because it's the truth! Most people know what they need to do to lose weight. Lack of motivation, lack of discipline and laziness are the three major things that prevent weight loss.
