I've heard that eggs have lecithin in them that lessens the negative effect of the egg yolks. Is that true? Please comment.

with regard to the first post, egg yolks contain lecithin but you should still only eat them in moderation. they are high in fat and cholesterol. nonetheless, it's a natural source of lecithin which is good for the brain. if you cook them in a healthy way, you can eliminate some extra fat and cholesterol from your diet. eat it hard boiled instead of fried. also, you can buy eggs that are free of antibiotics, cage free, enriched with omega 3s etc. which are healthier.

Don't forget, doing cardio exercise & strength training properly will help turn your muscles into a calorie burning machine. You don't have to pay to join a program like #2, there is tons of good free information on diet & exercise on websites like Oprah, Shape magazine, fitness magazine, etc. Sure there are benefits to avoiding hydrogenated fats, etc. but don't worry so much about it that it keeps you from starting to eat healthier. Do be very careful w/ anything fat-free - it may have just as many calories. And certain fats & oils in moderation are good for your body.

#6 Threesisters, when I get a craving for something sweet, I chew sugarless gum or eat raisins. At work, I usually slice an apple around 3:45 p.m. and share it with colleagues so that I don't eat the whole apple but have enough so that I'm not starving by the time I get home to fix dinner. Good luck with your glucose levels.

a note to threesisters, you should consider working 1/4 tsp to 1 tsp of cinnamon into your diet throughout the day. diabetics that used that dosage in their diets, saw their glucose levels improve dramatically over time. you can put it into things like vanilla yogurt or applesauce and it will still taste sweet. also, drinking chai tea with a sweet treat you enjoy may help you metabolise it better. just don't drink it late at night. it contains caffeine. hope this helps you.

Cinnamon really does help your metabolism!! Chai tea is a great way to get it..you can also try cinnamon sprinkled on your morning whole wheat toast with splenda mix instead of sugar.

If you had low carb bread the cinnamon and splenda would be even a better treat when you crave something sweet. Thanks

I agree with post #2 that if you are trying to eat food that would help you lose weight, make it healthy food too. It's my belief that while partially hydrogenated oils are terrible for you, its the high fructose corn syrup that scares me more (and it's in everything so you are probably getting hit with two really unhealthy things when you eat those "portion control snacks"). I have carried one of those travel size toothbrush and toothpaste carriers with me in my purse for a couple of years now. I brush my teeth after meals, and if I start craving something sweet, I brush my teeth. It is refreshing, sweet tasting, and no calories. And, I simply don't care if a co-worker comes in and sees me doing something healthy (of course, I don't leave a mess).

While my idea might not be as good for you as tooting's, I carry one of those Listerine pocket paks with me. One little strip lasts a real long time, and food would actually taste bad after having one of those!
