I really needed that. I have horrible PMS all the time, and I guess that's why. I just followed my cravings. i never wanted salty food though. Just chocolate and caffeine.

I have very bad cramps, and actually I have tried some of her suggestions before and they help. Chamomile tea helps but you have to drink the actual tea and not the tea bags. I tried taking vitamin B-complex and it helped me a lot. Also there is this product called focus factor and lately I have been taking it and my cramps which were really bad, to an extend where I would cry have gone better. The only thing not mentioned which I am confused is that do we take the calcium during the time or do we take it regularly so our body has calcium when needed. The same thing with vitamin B-complex I only take it during my PMS cramp days, should I take it regularly, cause it helps but the cramps are not totally gone, but actually they are not as bad. Thanks for the great article!

avoid caffeine? one of the ingredients of Midol is caffeine! it's kind of hard to avoid when it's the only pain reliever that works for me. plus i tend to drink more soda on those days because Pepsi greatly improves my mood which then helps me get over the pain easier. i guess different things work for different people. : )

As one who has suffered from PMS symptoms for years, I completely agree with these tactics. Staying away from processed foods was most difficult for me. Also, stay away from sugar substitutes. They multiply your misery exponentially! In addition, try to get as much uninterrupted sleep as you can once you start noticing your symptoms starting. Proper rest is essential to my mental well-being, which affects my physical state during this time. I tend to eat more whole foods and drink little to no caffeine. Getting even a little exercise - even a 10 minute stroll - is helpful. I've also discovered a new product that helps tremendously. It's a whole food, a juice blend with no added vitamins or minerals, that has lessened my PMS symptoms as well as most of the perimenopausal symptoms (I'm almost 41).
