I wish someone would have told me about the smoothie thing before I bought slim-fast. It caused me to pack on a whopping 20lbs in one month. Now I know I guess. Fast fixes never work.

It seems that all this "dieting" is some kind of restriction on how we live our lives. It doesn't have to be that way. "Diet" should not be a negative thing. Diet refers to what we eat,not what we do. So, consistently eating healthy, nutritional food is key. I didn't realize how much "bad" food I was eating until I decide to do the "Body For Life" program. If you're serious about losing weight, building a sculpted body, and living a fit life, you should look into this program. Your diet on this program doesn't leave you hungry or ban you from eating the ocassional fatty treat. If you get a chance, I recommend you read up on this program. It has truly enriched my life!

All things I already knew, but thank you for the reminder. Sometimes it's easy to forget. Well chosen foods!

I find what you wrote interesting. We're Americans now living in Asia and it's amazing how much bigger everyone is each year when we go back for annual leave. The portions are increasing as well. I'm not a dieter and never have been (I'm a 5'5" woman 118lbs) so each time we go back I eat pretty much the same and always put on about 4lbs which I lose in about a month or two upon returning... without changing my diet. The difference is over here they don't use corn syrup as a sweetner, just sugar- even in the sodas (reg. coke- not even diet). I really think that is one of the big differences and probably goes along with not eating overly processed foods of which corn syrup is usually a key ingredient.

As far as smoothies go, I asked the woman in my dining hall (I live on campus) for a non-dairy smoothie one day because I'm vegan and we came up with a strawberry-blueberry-melon concoction with lime juice and ice. If I watched the servings she threw in correctly (including the sugar that I need to ask her to leave out next time), it only came out to be 300 calories, and she didn't even use all of it to fill up my cup. I was tempted to throw in a banana, but thankfully resisted that temptation--already lost about 40 pounds and I'm keeping it off!

This article compares the calories of a fruit smoothie to the calories of 10-12 doughnuts. That's insane! The calories of said doughnuts are not the same calories you get from the smoothie. You want the calories from fruits b/c they also provide energy unlike the doughnuts which would slow you down and make you feel fatigued. Pay attention to your information folks!
