As stated, exercise along with a healthy diet low in saturated fat is a great way to improve your lipid profile (and your waistline). For the best results, you need to do the two together. For fun ideas on exercise and ispirational stories, see TheFitDoc.com.

A high fiber diet is also very helpful in improving your cholesterol levels. We are supposed to consume 30 grams of fiber a day and most people don't even come close. When I started adding up what I was eating in the way of fiber content, I was lucky to be getting 15 grams of fiber in a day. It's not enough just to say eat a vegetarian diet if you've got high cholesterol. You've got to be counting your grams of fiber each day and make sure you're getting enough. Plus, the more you exercise, the more improvement you will see in your cholesterol. 30 minutes might be sufficient but an hour is much better. 3 days a week might be sufficient but 5-7days a week will yield better results. I changed my cholesterol through diet and exercise without the help of any statins or red yeast rice. I was only exercising a few days of the week when I was told I had high cholesterol. I began exercising every day thereafter. Eventually, I extended the time I exercised once I worked up to it. Start exercising as much as you can and go from there. Don't limit yourself to just 3 times a week because it's sufficient. Do whatever you are capable of doing. Don't go on a statin just because your doctor recommends it. Try diet and exercise first. You will see better results through a few changes in your lifestyle than in taking a drug. I improved my cholesterol by 50 points through diet and exercise alone.

Listening live to len and joe on line today. They are confirming what ricecakecoaster has said about the side effects of statins and that when patients reported adverse side effects to doctors the complaints often fall on deaf ears and doctors refuse to connect the dots of muscular neuropathy and cognitive decline in patients with the use of the statins. Almost all the time the doctors never initiated converstations about adverse effects of statins. Patients had to keep bringing it up time after time to be heard. Doctors frequently dismissed their concerns. Very interesting what they had to say about it. Eventually today's show will get archived and you'll be able to hear it at lenandjoe.com

Just heard that the government considers some ingredient in red yeast rice a drug since it operates like a statin. They have decided to pull that ingredient out of all the red yeast rice so it's essentially ineffective and won't lower your cholesterol. Yeah, like the government isn't in bed with all of the pharmaceutical companies. Like our government really cares about free trade in America and letting the American consumer decide what they want. What a fraud they are.
