I'd be curious if they did such a study involving much less "white" carbohydrate content. It might be useful to determine all the factors involved. Some of us are adequate carb/moderate fat protein in our dietary balance, and - for me, at least - my LDL went down four years ago after establishing this personally rebalanced way of eating. I don't eat carrot cake or drink milkshakes, hence my question.

If everyone ate like a diabetic is supposed to eat they wouldn't have these problems associated with a high fat diet. Moderation and smarts here folks. Geesh I wish the government would pay me to do these experiments.

To Nehi94 - I've seen studies published in the past that have shown high degree of coronary heart disease in Scandinavian countries due to diet high in saturated fat (e.g. dairy products). Being thin (and / or fit) is NOT an indication of coronary health. One of my good friends who is a world class endurance athlete (in his 40's) just found out he had 70% occlusion in the main artery of his heart ... and had a stent put it. He eats well, exercises, has very low body fat.

Coconut oil is an edible oil that has been consumed in tropical places for thousands of years. Studies done on native diets high in coconut consumption show that these populations are generally in good health, and don't suffer as much from many of the modern diseases of western nations. Coconut oil was once prevalent in western countries like the United States as well. With a long shelf life and a melting point of 76 degrees, it was a favorite in the baking industry. But a negative campaign against saturated fats in general, and the tropical oils in particular, led to most food manufacturers abandoning coconut oil in recent years in favor of the polyunsaturated oils that come from the main cash crops in the US, particularly soy. These polyunsaturated oils were not a big part of the diet of previous generations, so how has the health of Americans changed now that polyunsaturated oils are for the most part all one finds on supermarket shelves across the US? We encourage you to take an honest look at the research presented on this website, and consider the "other side" of the story, whether it be coconut oil, saturated fats, or the new vegetable oils! http://www.coconutoil.com/index.html

Another puppet of the modern food industry. I like how he listed canola oil before olive oil. The sad part is; he didn't even conduct the study, he just sees the sensationalism and knows people will read it. Maybe they should read another view point from a potentially unbiased source: http://www.westonaprice.org/knowyourfats/conola.html

it is not only those described ( palm oil, etc.) that supply unhealthy fats. Schools should change their menu for example in a New York Times article. MANY places should use fewer fats

Diet is great but... Smoking is actually one of the biggest causes of heart disease because the the CO2 in the bloodstream damages the arteries and vessels.

What does politics have to do with a milkshake and piece of cake?

So can smoking, sitting in traffic or behind a city bus, please... what were their levels before they ate the meal????? One extreamly small sample group and we are ready to pronounce that everything is bad. Moderation is the key to a healthy lifestyle. But no one seems to pay attention to that one.
