OH MY!!!! What a horrible post!!!! How can you be so blind as to actually promote the use of modern polyunsaturated fats that are so harmful to our health. This is the kind of advice that keeps doctor's waiting rooms full of people seeking drugs. Saturated fats found in red meats; dairy products, coconut, palm, and palm kernel oils have kept populations healthy for millennia.

#1: I disagree. The Dr. indicates that monounsaturated oils are better replacements for saturated fats than polyunsaturated. The monounsaturated olive oil in the Mediterranean diet has been shown to be healthy (as long as total fat in the diet is in the correct proportion). Saturated fats do not necessarily keep other populations healthy, many times it's other factors: different combinations of foods and exercise. Many populations that do not consume as much dairy as western nations have very little incidence of heart disease.

Okay, I suppose it's possible that a single unhealthy meal can harm your health. But have these researcher's gone on to determine the effects of a single "healthy" meal? Are they as strong? Do they counteract the effects of an "unhealthy" meal?

People just relax. First off, "back in the day" people actually did physical work and that gave them an active lifestyle and the amount of sat. fat was kept quite low. People ate more fruits and vegetables, than meat, you can learn from history. However, the study is another "well duh" study (see drinking regular pop can add make you gain weight, just like any other empty calorie item), saturated fats are not healthy especially in large amounts. If you read the article it is stated that really eat this much sat. fat in one meal. The researchers where looking for a the result they got, compare a high sat. fat (which is not good) vs. a polyunsat. fat (which is good) and behold a difference...wow great article.

I agree with you ssgarrock... If people want to have a health life they need to eat health and get fit. It is not as big a deal as a lot of people think it is to use Olive Oil instead of Palm Oil. Or a low fat Margarine, or better yet COOKING SPRAY instead of a high fat butter. Drink Diet Soda if you want to drink soda and increase your water consumption, And MOVE for the LOVE OF GOD MOVE!!! Walk around the room when you are watching TV if this is the only exercise that you can get in a day. Start by pacing during the commercials if you would rather. But getting off you butts and MOVEING will do a LOT to get you health again.

if you look at the work of the Weston A. Price and his current foundation you will find a totally different prospective. Traditionaly diets yielded healthier people and less disease. It takes more that 1 quirky study to convince me that margarine would be better than butter. I come from scandivian stock and diary has always been a large part of their diet and they are not known to be fat people, quite the contrary.

I'd be curious if they did such a study involving much less "white" carbohydrate content. It might be useful to determine all the factors involved. Some of us are adequate carb/moderate fat protein in our dietary balance, and - for me, at least - my LDL went down four years ago after establishing this personally rebalanced way of eating. I don't eat carrot cake or drink milkshakes, hence my question.

If everyone ate like a diabetic is supposed to eat they wouldn't have these problems associated with a high fat diet. Moderation and smarts here folks. Geesh I wish the government would pay me to do these experiments.
