How can it be the last word on HRT, when there are women like myself, who are suffering? When I went through menopause, and subsequently had a hysterectomy for possible ovarian cancer, I was on HRT. Later, I was advised to stop HRT, as it is not recommended forever. Now, I have severe 'senile acne' and constant yeast infections. Oh yeah, and let's not forget the sweat drenching hot flashes and night sweats that continue to make me crazy. I'm a very young 60 year old woman. I went through menopause at age 47. The Johns Hopkins University article makes it sound as though women who are well past menopause no longer count or matter, as referenced by their statement about women who are 18 years past menopause. I want to know what is available or recommended for us. Just because some years pass doesn't mean that symptoms just vanish. Why, why, why, in this age of modern medical technology, is there not some (at least relatively) safe option for those of us who are suffering, yet are unwilling to blatantly give ourselves cancer? My mother died a horrible, miserable death from breast cancer. Do you think I want to follow in her footsteps? We older women NEED help, NOW.
