I too have had rheumatic fever as a child and as of recently been told I have mitral valve stenosis. I was told a few times when checked for chest pain that I had an abnormal EKG but they never seem to pursue it. Recently I have had severe pain to the temple area on the left side of my head but it only lasted a few seconds and was gone. I do not know a Dr. in my area I am not too far from the Tulsa Ok. area. I am in my mid 50s work full-time and fairly active. I am overweight and have been changing my lifestyle there I have loss 27Ibs so far do not smoke or drink..can you tell me of other symptoms to watch for. I am a nurse. I went to a cardiolgist once and he acted like it was no big deal but I still have symptoms..chest pain and then like I said pain to the left temple area I also have a very blue foot on the right side its not dark blue but a different color than the other...can you tell me of other symptoms to look for..and what are some of the things that can be done. Thank you

I had a mitral valve replacement 5 years ago when an echocardiogram showed major mitral valve regurgitation. The cardologist and the heart surgeon both asked if I'd ever had rheumatic fever. I haven't but I did have strep throat when was 4 and again when I was in my 20's. I was so sick that last time that I couldn't take care of my kids or even myself. Could that have caused the extra tissue growth on the mitral valve cusps...and if so, why? I was in my mid 40's before I found out that I had a heart murmur but I didn't have a cardiac work-up. I didn't think much about it because it's been my understanding that many people have benign heart murmurs.

I had a herat nurnur when I was a kid and the doctors said I'd grow out of it. But last week I was just sitting in class and my heart started going 100 miles an hour, it wouldn't slow down. they ran my to the emergency room and they put an I.V with something that would stop my heart and start it again. What will be next?

I have minor chest pains in the middle of my chest and back as well as pressure in my head. My blood pressure has also been going crazy lately and have been put on more pills. Are there any other simptoms? Judy

My mother had rheumatiod fever when she was a child. Today, she has constant pain in her joints and nerves and is getting worse through her years. The doctors have told her that she has arthritis and what ever medication she is given does not help. She cannot sleep because the pain awakens her during the night and during the day her pain is the same. What is there for her to get some type of relief. She also, has high blood pressure and thyroid, acid reflux and IBS and is under the care of a physician for those. Please help she is 68yrs old and would love to be pain free or at least get some type of relief, she loves life, her family, grandkids and gardening. Also, are her pains due to her having Rheumatoid Fever when she was a child? A very concerned and loving daughter who is 45yrs diagnosised with breast cancer this May 2007 and looks up to her mother for stregnth and support as she looks back at her mothers continuing day by day care for her family and she to struggles with her pains.

I'm 33 yrs. old and still single from the Philippines. I was being diagnosed of Rheumatic Heart Disease when I was 18 yrs. old and had a Valvuloplasty or Percutaneous Transvenous Mitral Commissurotomy(PTMC)at the age of 24. After I was being diagnosed of this ailment my doctor had prescribed me 500 grms of penicillin, 80gms of aspirin once a day and 10 grams of beta blocker twice a day. Aside from that I also have an annual check up to see the progress of my heart ailment. Actually, I always see to it that I comply whatever order my doctor gave me but just lately I am planning to get married but I am worried that my health could affect our plan of having a baby. I am afraid to asked this question to my doctor so I hope that through here I could get an answer to this question.
