On the flip side, how about raising your HDL if it's below 30? Mine was at 25, then pushed up to 30 with diet and exercise (weight down over 6 months to 215 from 275, exercise riding stationary bike daily for 1 hour). Since then, the HDL level has stuck.

Could not agree more.My HDL has always been around 60 and with using Niacin it jumps up to the 85-100 range.During the 6 year period from 2000-2006 my plaque score went from 77 to 462.During 4 of these years I was using Niacin and my HDL was especially high.Obviously it did not protect me.

I started running 16 years ago and my HDL on several Blood chemistry tests has been as high as 82 . I've run a few marathons ( 5 ) Regular exercise is the key to good health. My resting heart rate has been as low as 37. Don't get excited when your total cholesterol goes over 200 because of the " abnormally good" HDL.

Sounds like your saying as long as you have a good HDL and your cholestrol is 200 or even 240 don't worry because your HDH will offset the good from the bad. Is this a correct assumption???.

I was taking a over the counter flush-free Niacin and my HDL level was going up..started at 35 in two months with the over the counter Niacin went up to 40. Doctor wanted it to go up faster, put me on Niaspan and it has dropped to 33..increased it to 1000mg a day and still stuck at 35. What is causing me to stay stuck there?
