from www.plateauproofdiet.com The high incidence of type II diabetes in the United States is corroborated by the high incidence of obesity. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) estimates that 129.6 million adults (64.5%) are overweight. 61.3 million adults (30.5%) are obese. Only 33.5% of adult Americans are at a healthy weight. The NIH also estimates that 15.3% of children and 15.5% of adolescents are overweight. Apart from making America look big, obesity is making America ill. Obesity has been linked to a number of diseases, including; heart disease, stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure, gout, sleep apnea (and other breathing disorders), osteoarthritis, gall bladder disease, gall stones, emotional disorders, colon cancer, rectal cancer, prostate cancer, ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, uterine cancer, breast cancer, cancer of the gall bladder, etc. Morbidity from obesity is high, and a slightly obese individual is twice as likely as a non-obese individual to die prematurely. Costing America $117 billion per year in health care, obesity is overdue a sustainable treatment. from www.plateauproofdiet.com
