REF: "While computer users rarely suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome" EXCUSE ME! I'm a medical transcriptionist, and although we are a very erognomics conscious lot, carpal tunnel is our top job related/occupational hazards. YOU try typing 8 hours a day for 5-6 days a week and see if you "rarely get carpal tunnel" A lot of medical transcription is done off site by MTs who work for large companies and who "telecomute" over the internet from computers in their homes. We are notoriously picky about keyboards, desks, chairs, monitors, and have ergonomics seminars out the wazoo! and still CTS takes its toll. I had to quit transcribing (a job I love and am very good at)because my hands couldn't take it any more and I was on the verge of having to change careers. Fortunately, I was able to find a job proof reading/editing speech recognition dictated medical reports that does not require me to type all that much, so my investment in ergonomically optimal chair, desk, keyboard and a special pair of eye glasses for "using the computer" were not wasted -- not to mention my 20 years worth of knowledge and experience !!

This is a very helpful article that reminds me to watch out when using a computer. I have never had any of these symptoms but from now i will try all these measurements so that i can prevent my health from these dangerous problems.

If you are on your computer for 5 hours or more at a time when you are not at work, then yes, I can definitely say that some people have a problem. I have eye problems anyways, so I try to take a break from my computer and do something else. That way I'm giving myself a limit to how long I'm on. And I get stiff too if I sit too long. So I'll go out and exercise, read, or do something other than staring at a screen! It helps too!
