Old habits die hard, and it can be very difficult to change your job/lifestyle. You're a software programmer, you're sitting at a computer a lot. Have a trained massage therapist work on your hands, arms, back...it works! If you don't want to get a massage at a massage therapist's office, lobby your HR dept. for a corporate chair massage therapist to come by the office each week and get 15 minutes on those areas. Hey, they'll usually pay for it!

All I know is that I constantly have neck and back strain due to this .... At first I went to the doctor and had MRI and many tests done because of numbness in the arm and such... Turns out it is all a result of working on a computer and my poor posture at the computer...

Thanks very much for these tips. I am on a computer for 5-7 hours a day. I was suffering from most of these symptoms. I hope the tips work and will help relieve the pain.

I think too much of a big deal is made out of so-called ill effects of "too much" computer usage. I think if more people spent more time in front of a computer, learning, they would benefit, as opposed to all the time people spend in front of the tv, which is imho, full of toxic influences. This article will be used by people who don't like technology (esp. computers) anyway. Getting interested in computers helped me stop drinking. -John in Berkeley

Looks like I have other symptoms to look foreward to. I already have dry eye problems and just recently my shoulder has been bothering me. Fun!
