Dear Doctor, My blood pressure fluctuates between 140/100 and my sugar test showed 8.1. What re my risks? Please advise on what to do to reduce my risk of being hypertensive or diabetic. What are those things I need to do at this level to reduce further harm. I within the range of 40 - 45 years. I was earlier placed on drugs but discontinued. Thank you. My grand daughter is 7 years old and weighs app. 110 lbs. She is very over weight. her Mother and I both have type 2 diabetes. Even though my grand daughter is tested and negative for diabetes, besides diet and excercise, should we seek medical help and perhaps as a pre-caution add metformin to her daily intake???

I have found that taking metformin as prescribed by my doctor with food helps in many ways. I'm losing weight (water weight or whatever I'm losing; not as constipated as usual. I'm satisfied so far with this drug.

Approximately 4 months ago I was taken off Glipizide-metformin (by my request) by my Physician. I found that taking this medication after a long period of time it was as if poison was being shot into the bones of my feet. Of course because I have Type 2 Diabetes, both myself and my Doctor wrote the pain off as neuropathy. However, three times over a two year period due to my work schedule I was unable to renew my Rx for the glypizide-metformin. All three times over a two to three day period I noticed a change in the pain of my feet. Now that I am off of the medication my other meds had to be adjusted but there is a remarkable difference in the pain in my feet, I realize that every drug has different side effects for each person, but if I can help just one person from suffering unnecessary pain, it is worth my while to pass on this information.

I agree a hundred per cent that it's all about life style. The use of Metphormin, exercises, and an adequatre diet are basics in the treatment of the disease. I now this by experience. Recommendations are valuable.

I am taking Metformin but it hurt my stomach. So I stop taking it. I haven't been on it over a month now. I told my doctor and she said just take it if i feel better, but I have tried taking it again for 6 days and it still hurts my stomach. So what should I do?
