I believe I had this happen to me. I was taking Effexor and about two months ago, I had sweating, horrible weakness, nausea, and I would pass out in my bed and convulse, my heart would beat rappidly... I quit taking that medicine because I believed it was poisoning me. I went to the ER two days in a row and the doctors couldn't help, they just told me it was my fibromyalgia and that I had an infection. I felt like I was dying. I hope a law is passed to protect people like me who are on disability from being used as guinee pigs and the scientific community just sits back and waits for the outcome. How many of us have to get sick or die before someone requires the medical community to protect us. Doctors are supposed to help us heal not hold our hands as we go to the grave.

I too have fibromyalgia and neuropathy and clinical depression. Am (WAS as of now) on Effexor XR. With cronic pain also on other meds. I only have 1 dr. and 1 pharmacy for all meds. I thought I was being careful. My dr. knew every medication that I took. Found out today that the combination of med have poisoned me (so to speak). I now have Serotonin Syndrom. Because it is caused by meds, it is fully fixable (unlike soooooo many other problems with my 33 year old body (that feels like 99yrs.) I have found a great website for drug interactions. It is - drugs.com - How simple huh!! Just go there and you can input a list of all meds you are on and it will give you any and all interactions, or you can do individual med searches. It also gives food interactions. I hope this helps anyone, someone, (hopefully me) before it is too late. It seems that there is more to our "wonderful" anti-depressant medications are most dr. are telling. (Or possibly knowing?) Out of my 8 meds, I had 5 MAJOR DRUG INTERACTION and 10 MODERATE DRUG INTERACTIONS. The sad thing is, I have been to the ER numerous times ( I quit counting after 25) and I can now account a pretty big chunk of those times that I was told to just go home (because fibromyalgia is the cause of everything to my SMALL TOWN DR.S) to being actual drug interaction visits. The thing that scares me to death is that been on the SAME MEDS for some time now and the longer that my specific interactions continues the deadlier they get!!! If I hadn't caught this today, would the Medical Examiner have caught it when I went to the morgue????????????!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: Serotonin Syndrome I was in the hospital for 4 days and then in a psych unit for another 5 where they put me back on meds. As far as I can tell these meds have the same risk. I don't know what to do. I have almost 9 short term memory still and feel restless and extremely depressed. I don't feel like myself at all. It is as if the S Syndrome forced a physical and mental breakdown. Can you help?
