Great article with good information. If you can tolerate aspirin and don't have ulcers or other stomach trouble, taking a low dose 81 mg aspirin a day or is one small easy thing that can help thin the blood. (of course, talk to your dr. to be sure it's safe for YOU!) And either way it is good to have aspirin in your house or with you at all times in case of emergency.. If you THINK you're having a heart attack or stroke take one on the way to the ER or while waiting for the ambulance...

Also, it is a great idea to check with the hospitals in your area to see which ER's are best equipped to handle stroke patients. There are some treatments that can reverse the effects of a stroke, but MUST be administered within an hour of having it and some hospitals do not have the equipment or medicine to do this. So know ahead of time which hospital is best for strokes and heart attacks.

i awoke one morning in 2004 and had no feeling in my right hand.i was checked out and was told it could probably be a mild stroke.i lost the feeling in my hand for around 2month. isaw a specialist, and was told they thought it was a nerve in my arm which caused it.this happened in scotland, where i lived, and was told i would get an operation to repair the nerve, guess what? i'm still waiting.

I am 40 years old and the majority of my life I,ve been relativily healthy. about a year ago I was diagnosed with an esophageal avm and i am convinced that it is the reason i am all of a suddenly having severe and intense migranes, nosebleeds, trouble with speech and memory. Am I wrong in my assumption, is it just old age?

This is a really great article. One of my friends had sent me something similar. The three ways of recognizing a stroke. They were 1. Ask the individual to smile 2. Ask the person to talk in a simple sentence coherently. 3. ask him/her to raise both arms. If the person cannot do any of these things it could be a sign of a stroke. If you get to the person within 3 hours of a pending stroke, you could help them reverse it. I'm glad I have that information handy. I urge anyone to write these down. It could save somebody's life.
