What the "FDA believes is no threat to health" is something to consider toxic. Just in the news recently, people with drug coated stents now need to take antibiotics longterm for anticoagulant results. Who approved those drug coated stents? The FDA maybe? Continuing to cite old FDA reports as something valid, isn't evidence of anything but maybe the levels at one point in history. Sorry that you lost your sense of taste and nutrition and can't tell a difference between organic and conventional food. Read something beyond the year 2000. Maybe you will get more enlightened on the matter. I'll still going to buy organic.

Dr Margolis, you've convinced me but how about the pesticides that go into the drinking water after they are shed from the produce? Wouldn't that affect us in a negative way? Well, not only us but the entire living planet?

i just look at the ingredients and how much i eat of something...... the way things are going eventually everything will give us cancer.... look back 100 years.... cancer was not even around and look at it today and imagine what it will be in 100 more years.... scary huh?

The FDA is in the pockets of agribusiness and drug companies so a smart consumers have legitimate reasons to be concerned about FDA statements. Furthermore, many organic food producers have been at the forefront of the movements to bring back heirloom produce which can be much more tasty than the produce bred for uniform appearance & shelf life vs taste. Dr why not encourage a balanced diet along w/ instead of vs organic?

I try my hardest to buy organic lettuce and tomatoes. I thing an issue for people on limited budgets are the prices! Although that may be the crutch for people to buy processed/ fast food items, the economy is not health-friendly. If we all bought organic foods and had no obesity and diseases for the FDA to give us pills for, the government would go out of business. Other countries are more health conscious than the US and they still offer free healthcare! I hope one day the US will embrace healthy and conscious descisions in the aspect of food and entertainment rather than the immediate gratification economy in which our children are diabetic, overweight, asthmatic and not interested in the hard and gratifying lifestyle of growing/developing food themselves.

There was just as much cancer back 100 years ago as there was now. The only thing different is we have the technology to diagnose it so you hear about it more now. The average life span of a person was 54 back 100 years ago and look at it now. People don't know what there really was 100 years ago. We are a changing world and I personally feel that organic food is a waste of money. I know that our rivers, lakes, and oceans are getting polluted and it really doesn't make a difference whether we have chemicals and such in our produce. I believe organic foods do as well. We all use the same water supply. That is how organic and conventional foods are grown with. EVERYTHING has to have water to live. I am more concerned with our nations water. Think about it. You spend all the money on organic veggies and you get it home to wash it and well it was watered with chemicals and we clean it with the same water. Please tell me, what the difference is?

#10-12: I agree w/ you about cancer and increases in lifespan. I also think that clean water is important. Organic can help by reducing or eliminating the chemicals used to produce food which gets makes for cleaner groundwater, rivers, lakes & oceans (and seafood). Some ppl and possibly some producers use purified water which would also cut down on the chemicals in the H20.

I don't have anything against people who choose organic way of life. The price of purified water is expensive and I don't see producers spending their money on the water. Most of our rivers, lakes, and oceans are polluted and won't get any better and if they do they will not be better in our lifetime or our children's lifetime. In fact, they will probably continue to get worse. Unfortunatly our world will not stop polluting our earth so in the future when our grandchildren are fighting to get food and water they are probably not going to care whether the food they eat is organic or not. They will eat whatever they get their hands on. The few of us in the world that does care, we are a minority and it won't matter anyway.

Most of our rivers, lakes, and oceans are polluted and won't get any better and if they do they will not be better in our lifetime or our children's lifetime. In fact, they will probably continue to get worse. Unfortunatly our world will not stop polluting our earth so in the future when our grandchildren are fighting to get food and water they are probably not going to care whether the food they eat is organic or not. They will eat whatever they get their hands on. The few of us in the world that does care, we are a minority and it won't matter anyway.
