i find this article, interesting. few facts were left our which is usual for people writing about supplements.Their have been claims however not all have been established as fact nor has all the information been released about all the supposed cases of these products causing damage as stated. As in most cases like this usually the person using the supplement exceeded the recommended dose or was too young to use shuch products, or they combined them with other products to achieve faster results. One has to look at the whole issue and not just a small part. millions of people have used these products and while there are 27 reported cases of reactions or death that is far lower than the number of people in the united states who have problems with over the counter drugs such as asprin etc. How about the FDA pull asprin off the market and lets see what happens. How about we list what over the counter drugs such as asprin and other such items and the amount of people in the united states that end up either dying or having serious reactions. Buet most will be suprised. Once again we have a case of over reaction by the goverment which is usual shame we dont have the same reaction to items such as nightquil or alike.

This may be encouraging, but the FDA still has eons to go to prove that it has even the slightest bit of integrity in today's toxen-ridden market.

It is interesting how we never hear stories about how many drugs (FDA approved), rather than nutritional supplements, are not publically criticized for their dangerous side effects. NSAID's (such as Motrin or Advil), which can be purchased at any drug store, have harmed and killed far more people than the nutritional weight loss supplements that keep making headlines. An artilce like this should truly be taken with a grain of salt. Of course a doctor is going to back drugs which are FDA approved because those drugs make them money. The natural supplements hurt their business. Unfortunately, healthcare and pharmaceuticals is one big business.

The FDA should be SO concerned about all the DANGEROUS Over-The-Counter drugs and the off-label abuses of drugs that the FDA has already approved. The first one that comes to mind is the pharma diet loss drug Ali. After listening to the known side-effects, one would have to be completely out of their mind to even consider this dangerous stuff.

I also find it interesting that doctors/health professionals never go out of their way to point out the hazards of drugs already approved by the FDA. By some estimates, 100,000 people die every year from prescription drugs. Vioxx killed as many as 55,000 people. How many people died from Ephedra before it was banned? Less than 200? Pick up any medical reference (Mayo Clinic Health Book, for example) and see for yourself just how biased doctors are in favor of drugs and drug companies. Don't be fooled by drug pushers in doctors' uniforms, people.

Michael Vich got in trouble for fighting dogs and he got treated with fines much more than this...all you are telling the public is that we do what we want too. The companies involved with this lie should have been pentalized more harsh than this

if they were worried about health issues then why the hell dont they stop all the obese gorgers of fast food, makes no sense, recall weight loss supplements but leave everyone free to go eat mc donalds for every meal and kill themselves. haha, just another case of our double standard american ways.

There are other ways to lose weight along with diet and exercise. It's very important to get enough sleep when you consider diet. You could also quit eating meat, but that is diet. Another thing one could do is fast regularly.

I'd be more concerned about Hydroxycut's past issues. When I worked at a health store, I was blown away with how bad most of the products in the store were. Just the simple ingredient combinations not even yielding anything good. The entire market for these products is based on the marketing. It's never been about science. I'd have people come into the store asking for a product only to convince them to skip it for an alternative that was less expensive and overall better. Once people realized they would achieve superior results with a simple ECA vs any of the crap marketed products I achieved a solid customer. I still use the ECA today and I've tried them all, including Clen for fat burning. While not as effective as Clen, the results were still very good. Of course, this includes exercise and diet change. The worst of the problem here is brought on by the consumers' laziness. I was floored how many people would come into the store with a triple scoop waffle cone from BR (our neighbor) and ask for "a pill to help them lose weight". I was like, "Here, let me take the ice cream and pitch that in the trash first." When you'd show them something and talk to them about how to take it, diet changes and exercise they'd get upset because they just wanted a pill to fix it. Laziness and idiocy are the problems. Most of the cases of death could probably be attributed to abuse, an adverse, but fairly unique side-effect, not drinking enough water, not eating a proper diet or fasting to enhance the effects. Hydroxycut was a terrible product in general, but by no means is the FDA doing anyone favors. There is a double standard here. If major drug companies started creating supplements there wouldn't be a huge push to "stop the madness". The madness exists with OTCs and prescription drugs too.
