Medicine is not an exact science, therefore, even "so called" proven and tested treatments fail and some, but not all, alternative treatments work. The main motto here, is "do the patient no harm", whether you use main stream medical treatments or alternative medical treatments. Just as John Hopkins University was quoted this past week, not all cancer patients benefit from the so called "proven" chemotherapies and radiation treatment, and some cancer patients even benefit from alternative methods of treatment.

When I saw the title of the link, "Is Alternative Medicine Legit?", I was worried that this would be another silly endorsement of nonsense therapies. I am so glad it was not what I expected. To be honest, I think that 'alternative medicine' is almost always snake oil, sold to desperate people who hope and hope and hope for a cure for whatever ails them. An excellent book on the subject is " Trick or Treatment: The Undeniable Facts about Alternative Medicine" by Edzard Ernst and Simon Singh. In my heart, really deeply, I believe that disease is the enemy, be it Alzheimer's, diabetes, cancer, Huntington's, DMD, whatever, and I hope to fight it at every turn. But alternative so-called-medicine is not the vehicle to win this war.

I feel that there are two sides to everything, There are people out there touting alternative cures to get money, and preying on the sick and desperate, yes. But the same is true for so many drug companies that push and push drugs that end up hurting people more, such as Paxil, which makes people much worse. I have two friends who were on it and both got much worse, and one of them suicidal. And just as allopathic medicine is good and provides tests and things that can be very beneficial, you can't completely bash "alternative" therapies either, such as acupuncture, which has been used in the east for thousands of years. That should say something! Just because we don't have the scientific abilities to measure how well some alternative therapies work, doesn't mean they don't help. We used to not know about things like gamma rays and microwaves, but we eventually were able to measure them and prove their existence. I think it is important to remember that as long as an alternative therapy doesn't do you harm, it doesn't hurt to use it to compliment a more allopathic one. And if an allopathic therapy isn't helping you, then at least an alternative therapy can offer a little glimmer of hope. And no matter how short lived that may be...what's the harm in a little hope?

Why is it if main stream medical treatments are so great they do not cure anything just treat it, why because there is no money in a cure, most medicine you start to take you are on for the rest of your life. Bottom line it's all about money and how to keep it coming in. Most alternative medical treatments are a change in the way you take care of yourself and what you put in your body such as eating healthier and exercise, not eating food that is pumped up with chemicals.

I respectively disagree. A study shows that only 25% of mainstream medicine and/or "approved procedures" actually work and the remaining 75% have not been proven to work. There is no wonder that I get results treating patients who become ill on conventional treatment. Mainstream in my view is primarily what makes the most money. Mainstream physicians I have found who make harsh criticism of "alternative methods," usually know the least about them. This sort of advice is often passed from one physician to another, and then generally most of them parrot the advice until it is widely believed and accepted. Here's a short list of conditions that I can treat and cure, which are a dismal failure in conventional practice. I get results and what is even more alarming is that many patients have been seriously hurt by conventional doctors via surgeries, prescriptions, etc. Congestive Heart Failure Sarcoidosis Mitral Valve Prolapse Cancer in 99% all forms Rheumatoid Arthritis Diabetes AIDS Obesity Autoimmune disorders

"the medicine I practice and trust is that which is subjected to objective clinical trials;" Are you kidding? There is nothing objective about big Pharma making studies to get the result they need to sell everyone their latest wares. The system is 100% tainted and incestuous with people that think exactly like you do because thats exactly how they were taught in med school training which by the way is highly supported by Pharma industry. Buyer beware....mainstream medical is all about getting the medical industry rich and nothing else. Thats why it is such a reactionary system versus preventative. no one makes money on people that are well or dont need drugs for conditions that never existing or didnt hurt anyone such as restless leg syndrome, chicken pox vax, flu vax, etc, etc.

Respectfully objective; -------------------------------------- Intereseting to hear two sides defending their corners. I thnk we need to decide which is the biggest corner and who has most to loose.I suggest respectively its a no contest,in the one corner are the conventional drug companies with many millions to spend on research and advertising, and in the other comming up fast is the alternative medicine groups with some what more of a modest budget. Those with somewhat less to spend and more to loose seem to defend with vigour if not with money. Did I hear right that some years ago when New York was "blacked out" due to ajn electricity failure that people actually got better not vissiting their doctor.Or perhaps its just"heresay" and that its actually works if you try a healthy diet, Drink less alcohol, give up smoking, give up suplements and stick to the alternative medecine of the past hundred years.Smile more, worry less, drink more water and eat les fat, Hey Ho thought I would just stoke the coals a bit. lee du ploy hong kong
