When I did actually have a heart attack, I though I was having a panic attack. So I didn't do anything about it till one day it didn't stop so I called an ambulance and found out it was a heart attack.

I have had my fair share of panic attacks, and I can honestly say from experience that it is not unreasonable to mistake one for a heart attack. I still thought I was dying for the first half dozen or so times I had panic attacks. Thankfully, I've realized now that I'm not dying, which has made enduring them .001% easier. My panic attacks also consist of hyperventilating, passing out, and vomiting though, so my thoughts were occupied by a more general belief of impending doom than a heart attack. :P IMO, it's better to be safe than sorry, though. I've heard several other examples of people going to the ER from a panic attack mistaken as a heart attack. But unfortunately, the majority of people come in and it's a heart attack, no doubts about it. So I commend you and your wife for getting immediate help and a thorough exam, because the previous comment is a clear example of the consequences for failing to do so.

I have had several attacks where I REALLY feel and think I am dying. It is the most horrific thing to have to go through. It got worse when I was pregnant with my daughter, I was hospitalized when pregnant with my son for a few months and it was the worse. I am a young mother and for the last 8 years of my life when my panic got worse (had my first anxity attack when I was 8) I have been on and of xanax for years and hated it finally went to REAL docs and they put me on lexapro and kloinpin. Love the Kloin. but just found out that the reason I gained 30 lbs in a year is because lexapro can cause you to gain weight! I quit taking it and I am terrified everyday of my life. Of everything. I tried Effexor XR or whatever it is and 2 days later was in the er for feeling like there was something stuck in my throat I was fine and feeling great except that feeling, for the first time in my life. They gave me a GI shot to see if it would sooth my throat and about an hour later they released me and I went to get into my car and felt so faint and almost passed out in the parking lot I left thinking I would feel better and ended up having very VERY bad chest pains and discomfort and palpations, It lasted for hours and went to 2 different ER's and everything came back perfectly fine, the one hospital told me that the GI shot could cause dizziness and all. So now I am terrified to try effexor again, lost story a little shorter lol Wouldn't I feel any side effects like that within a few hours not 2 days later? Sorry for all the bad spelling was tying in a hurry, anyone wanting to chat or any suggestions etc please e mail me @ longaberger08@yahoo.com
