Limiting all carbohydrates is the best approach to treating diabetes. This has been shown in several studies, including a very recent one. The mainstream medical community is mostly focused on drugs and don't believe people can change their lifestyle. Lifestyle is very important and until the ADA can embrace this concept they are not serving the public. People can change how they live and are much much stronger than most MD;s give them credit.

His advise is incredible in light of the evidence of the effects of Avandia (which is no longer prescribed~how outdated is this article!), while Actos and Byetta (an insulin mimic) have come under question as well. A major with Byetta study was cancelled in mid-phase (very rarely done) when several of the patients in the study died. The study also revealed that Type 2 diabetics who attempted to get their HgA1C below 7 were the ones most likely to expire. Ideally it would seem logical to have as low a blood sugar as a healthy individual's, but it just may be too stressful an enterprise on a diabetics system. On a personal note I was on Avandia for 3 months and it was incredibly disabling. Doctors kept trying to talk me into taking it again for several years thereafter, to no avail. Like you, I know my body better than anyone else. I implore you to listen to your inner wisdom. As a diabetic of 24+ years I can assure you that lifestyle is the key. I was completely drug free for over 15 years through exercise, moderation in foods which were as organic as possible, and yoga. I recommend prudence investigation of the ramifications before being talked into taking these medications.

Aren't there research studies that indicates that a vegan diet, combined with weight loss and exercise, can prevent and/or improve diabetes 2?

Eventhough this Dr's have studied all of their adult life trying to find a cure for diabetes. all they have come up with is a way to make the pharmaceutical companies crazy rich. Better yet, why don't they really try to find a real cure and not just a way to make the people with this illnes take so many meds with thousands of side effects. Most of these patients don't die from diabetes but end up dieing from the side effects of this meds. That is the resons why all the malpractice attorneys are going crazy filing lawsuits against all these pharmaceutical companies. The only affected party in this awfull situation is the person that went to the grave and their families that saw them suffer. I, on the other hand, rather try something else if if it is unproven rather than make these physicians rich along with the pharmaceutical companies they work for. It is unbelievable that they can study dna in humans and animals and never make mistakes from one person to the next as far as their dna is concerned, but, they can't find a cure for DIABETES. I call a monopoly game where the big guys always win. My comment.

I have eliminated diabetes in a very short period of time with a partial vegan diet high in green leafy vegetables and a balance of protein, carbs and fat. Your body needs all 3. Do not eliminate carbs from your diet but increase complex and eliminate simple carbs. It is all about diet. Injecting insulin is the worst course to take as your cells close even more doors and that is why diabetes gets worse, it becomes insuline immune. You need to bring your cells back to health through proper diet. Ther is plenty of info on the web. Please, just change your eating habits and go for a walk.

Start your path to curing type 2 diabetes by reading Death to Diabetes, you will find plenty of info on the web if you just do a search for that title. In 2 and 1/2 weeks of doing what this man said I had brought my numbers back into a normal range. It won't work this fast for everyone, but, it is obvious that changing your diet correctly, indeed does work!

Eliminating whole groups of food is a ridiculous idea. There should be *balance* in all of your life - food, exercise, fun and stress reduction. I've had diabetes (type 2) more than half my adult life. I controlled it with diet and exercise until I was put on Depro-Lupron, which suppresses hormones (common sense should tell these dunderheads that INSULIN IS A HORMONE TOO)!!!! After that I was on various oral meds and insulin until I discovered Byetta. When I had a lap band placed for weight loss I was finally able to exercise as much as I wanted. I even began to weight lift and was able to dead lift 400 pounds! And yes, I'm a 50 y.o. woman! I began to eat better and get in more fruits and veggies with the emphasis on 'protein first' that I learned in my weight loss support group. After three years of being banded I'm now beginning the next phase of skin removal. My diabetes meds are a quarter of what they were, I'm off the high blood pressure meds altogether and I take more vitamins than anything else. Balance in all that you do - and the right medication for you - is the key. My doctor firmly believes that by this time next year I'll be off the diabetes meds as well.
