About 15 yrs ago during a pre employment physical the doctor said I had a nodule. I made a appointment with my Dr. and he couldn't feel it.Throughout the years i have seen several different Drs and no one ways able to detect it. 2 yrs ago I was in the hospital, had an ultrasound on my carotid artery and the tech ask if I had ever had a doctor examine my thyroid. I ask the attending to check and he said it was fine. It wasn't until i insisted that he look at my sonogram that he informed me that I had a nodule. I had a biopsy and it was benign, but it does put pressure on my vocal cords which make my voice raspy. Doctors are not given enough training to be able to detect nodules .

Now I'm concerned again after reading each and every comment here. Even though thad the radioactive uptake, blood workup, and biopsy, My doctor never mentioned removing the mass. I guess I need to make an appointment with a Endocrinologist. I am 51 yrs old, I have had numerous miscarriages,(no live births), my hair started thinning in my late 30's and I'm tired all the time. I started have menopausal symptoms when I was around 40. I gotta get this rechecked.

I was diagnosed with Papillary Carcinoma in August. My DRs were very professional and the procedure went off very well. My entire gland was removed. The nodule was found by chance at a church ultrasound screening. Nobody ever felt it by hand! It would have grown for another 6 months to a year before because visible! I was very blessed that my wife scheduled it. I am going in for Radioactive Iodine in a couple of weeks. Feels weird to say that I am a cancer survivor! I have never felt bad at all!! Anyway, if you are going to get cancer, this is a good one to choose. I have a cancer plan that pays $50K upon first diagnosis. This is a MUST OWN for anybody. Get checked occasionally especialy if thyroid issue run in your family.

I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer in July and had a thyroidectomy on August 1, 2008. I am a healthy, active 41 yr old woman. I had two nodules on one lobe that measured 2 cm total. My obgyn found them by accident. I sure would like to know what is causing all of this thyroid cancer.
