When I was pregnant with my first son, my doctor found that my TSH levels were high and found nodules on my thyroid. After my son was born, my levels did not go down and a needle biopsy was performed. It was a miserable procedure; they numbed my neck but I still felt like giant needles were poking through my neck. The result was that the nodules were suspicious, and I had to have half of my thyroid removed. The nodule was benign, and I have my TSH levels and neck checked annually to make sure everything is OK. I am glad that my doctor (my OB/GYN, nonetheless) was astute enough to double check and send me to a specialist. Also, since they did not remove the entire thyroid, I do not have to take daily medication.

Thank you for informing the public of something that we can now look for ourselves and inform our PCP's of any abnormalities in our neck. It is always good t just examine our own bodies for anything abnormal.-Wendy
