Why isn't this a criminal act? Knowingly deceiving us? Risking our children's lives to make a few bucks? It is almost unbelievable that they would use a calculator to determine young children's doses rather than prove the safety. Does this infuriate anyone else besides me?

There have actually been many studies of these medications in the pediatric population (do a literature search at PubMed). I realize they are not randomized controlled clinical trials. Poisoning (AKA overdose) is common with all medications in all age groups. The public should take some time to actually study this matter more carefully. These medications do have a place in the pediatric population. There needs to be more education on the appropriate conditions under which these medications may be used in children. Supervision by medical professionals familiar with these drugs (doctors, pharmacists, nurses) and their place in pediatric therapy would also decrease adverse events.
