Taking Vitamin C and zinc after getting a cold never did much for me except make me throw up. Instead, I started getting my Vitamin C daily (as in EVERY day) from a 12 oz glass of orange juice and a multivitamin. The result was no cold for over 13 months! And before this I was getting at least 3 colds a year. See my post about my Vitamin C experience at http://www.sciaticabackpainrelief.com/health/vitamins/vitamin-c-get-it/ . Note that I run 4 mi every other day in temps as low as -5F.

I would add one more point. Another safe alternative measure is walking! A recent study showed you are 3x less likely to contract a cold if you walk on a daily basis. How much walking? How can you fit walking into a busy life? Read the details at http://www.trekdesk.com/Treadmill_Desk_Info/Common_Cold.html
