Actually, the health claim is that one half cup of tomatoes to one cup of tomatoes A DAY reduces the risk of prostate cancer and other cancers. It is also known to improve memory when eaten daily. The tomato is full of antioxidants on its own. However, the synergestic effect of other vegetables that one would get with the tomato when making a soup, salsa, salad, or wrap would also help prevent the other cancers too. The FDA doesn't know squat when it comes to health issues and reports like this just continue to mislead the public. Considering that we are to eat 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day, it shouldn't be too hard to work in a half cup to one cup of tomatoes each day as a preventative measure.
