To the author: You need to do more background study on high-fructose corn syrup. It is being given a bad reputation unfairly. Compare it to other sugars.

For crying out loud. Eat a banana and reduce your bloating faster than you can say "Buddha belly"?? Give me a break. Most belly "bloating" is extra gasiness inside the intestines (or fat inside or ouside the abdominal cavity), not extra sodium holding in water, which shows up more in swelling of feet and hands). There is NO quick way to slimness. And there are no foods or methods that will reduce your abdominal girth more than it will reduce your weight in general. The amount of belly fat is a result of genetic tendency to be an apple shape or a pear shape, PLUS the amount of weight you carry. Lose weight and you lose more or less abdominal fat. The dietary recommendations in the article are actually pretty sound. I'm just getting tired of the way healthy eating is being marketted for "belly flattening." Marketing it this way is misleading in its incompleteness. It makes people think a couple dietary changes will work off abdominal girth when an overall improvement of healthy eating and exercise are the anser for the short and long term.

And very few will listen. All the fat people will still do half-assed sit ups at the gym and no cardio, wondering why they're fat. Big girls eating badly-drinking pop(water?Bad) and no cardio...that's not good for anyone.

How about even more obvious and actually healthy alternatives that don't have you eating only grapefruit for breakfast? Like Home-made burritos, which not only are low in fat, but contain lots of much needed fiber and protein from the beans alone, and are also stuffed with healthy veggies like diced onions, bell peppers, minced garlic and others? Not to mention they're ready to re-heat virtually any time, and variations are endless.

How is a diet without Protein healthy? As a physical trainer I would never recommend going a single day without eating atleast 1/4 of your body weight in protein (grams). Of course different consumptions would be required for people who are in worse shape than others. I am not saying you need to eat a steak every night, but a diet without protein has shown to lead to far worse things than being overweight.

Bananas are a no-no if you're wanting to lose weight. 1 banana has over 20 grams of carbs not to mention almost all fruits and that's where belly fat comes from. Just look at all the carbs those so-called "healthy" fruit smoothies have. Stored carbs turn into fat if you don't exercise to burn it off. As long as you exercise 4-5 times a week for 30-45 minutes, you can eat whatever you want. But Americans aren't committed to exercising that much.

a lot of this data is really skewed, and very vague. someone may read the paragraph about tea and think that going to starbucks and getting a green tea chai latte may be good for them. Also, the bit about snacking... SNACKING IS GOOD FOR YOU. Eating small snack-like meals 5 times a day increases metabolism. Discouraging snacking is wrong.
