I give myself a Break, In Other Words…I Relax. Relaxation is a key ingredient in a successful daily routine. Everybody needs to ease up at the end of the day. It’s important to focus on activities outside of work. Devote at least an hour each and every day to relaxation. Take a walk, ride a bike, or play basketball. These physical tasks are a soothing and productive way to release tension and redirect your energy to more important thing. Spending quality time with your family is a good way to relax. Forget about a three-course dinner for tonight. Instead, pick up a healthy take out dinner and take the kids to a nearby park. Make leisure time with your family a significant part of your day. Also, when you take a few moments to talk over the day with family and friends, it can put your successes and challenges into the proper perspective. This clarifies your thinking as you begin to proceed with tomorrow’s game plan. There’s another important element to this part of the day: personal growth. It’s easy to slip into the same relaxation routines every night. Look at the early evening as a time for expanding your mind and developing your body. Sure, it is ok to “veg out” once in a while. But relaxation does not necessarily mean the absence of productive activity and that growth is only going to happen if you actively push yourself. So be creative. Challenge yourself to do something out of character. Here are some simple suggestions for you to consider: Go to the library Cook a gourmet meal Take a walk Volunteer your time for a worthwhile cause Watch the sunset Take an adult-education course Learn to play a musical instrument Attend a concert Read a book Master a new sport like ice skating or tennis Plant some flowers Wash your car Write someone a letter How do you relax at the end of the day? Please let me know. www.bodybyjake.com
