I dunno...most of this advice would have people just getting bigger and bigger thinking it's okay. That's not going to solve their problem if they're already feeling bad about their bodies.

I was not all that thrilled with this article on ditching the diet mindset.......... I am a member of a wonderful weight loss support group, & honed in on this, thinking it would be a good presentation for an evening. I will admit that there were 2 items that made sense; and that we use those ideas already (the I overdid it, so I may as well keep it up now & the I'm so hungry thing). Any number of us who are overweight, be it by 5 or 50 pounds, tend to give up when things don't seem to be moving. I had hoped that this was going to be helpful and provide better insight and hints/tips in order to help my group progress. The majority of these things are not even realistic to many in the group; taking a vacation to the beach is not practical whether we like our bodies or not - many of us can't just pick up & go. Wanting to look as slim as Anjelina Jolie or other star doesn't generally cross OUR minds; nor does being a certain size; and while the general public and younger girls may be leaning towards those thoughts, many aren't. And none of really think our butts have grown overnight; we're just not thrilled with our look & weight. MANY are emotional eaters; and reasoning our butt is big because of it is no help; it simply tends to make some emotional eaters eat more. Also most of us of a certain age know we can't possibly get our weights back to where they were when we were in college. I think your article is quite flawed, and you would do better to come up with better solutions.

I would suggest to do what fits your style. For me personally, I've lost about 20 pounds and back to my old high school football body ( In college now ) by being hard on myself. Constantly reminded myself of what kind of body i was aiming for, how to get there, and how not to stray. I don't think I would have gotten to where I am today if I had been reminding myself that it was OK that I strayed a bit here and there. Then again, I always did my best while getting yelled at in football =P.

This IS great advice! Numerous studies have shown that a positive attitude can help with weight loss, while focusing on failures and negatives just adds to the vicious cycle of eating for comfort and feeling badly about ourselves. Stop the obsessing for a short time and just see what happens: this does not mean "throw caution to the wind" and eat whatever you like, as some readers would like to interpret. It doesn't mean "accept who you are and what your situation is and stop trying to change". It means don't put your life on hold (such as putting off vacations) 'until I lose weight' and don't compare yourself to others. Love yourself, encourage yourself, acknowledge how fantastic you are, and live a good life--including nourishing your body and taking good care of it!

There is no real way to feel good about yourself if you feel fat. Lose those first 10 and your confidance begins to soar. The ONLY way to do that is diet and exercise regarless of all that bunk aabout berries and tea.
