This article is very true, in fact herbal supplements have never been proven safe or effective and that goes for vitamin C as well. It's all about self disipline and eating the right foods. There are no short cuts in life and you definitely can't find it in an herbal supplement.

i agree diet is the BEST way to ward off cancer and other chronic diseases. but let's get one thing straight here... many of the side-effect ridden pharmaceuticals that doctors and patients rely on have never been "proven safe" either. with the fda fast-tracking drugs to bring them to the market quicker, you can rest assured many other dangerous drugs will continue to make it to the market. not to mention the oxycontins of the world, where the manufacturers flat out lied knowing they had a dangerous product. vitamin c is a water-soluble (excess excreted through urine) that has been safely consumed for many years.

The answer to your question may well be "Yes!" Consider the following: In the June 2008 issue of Integrative Cancer Therapies, an article by Ira Cantor, MD, entitled "Shedding Light on Vitamin D and Integrative Oncology," states, "Studies show an important relationship between vitamin D and malignancies, both in prevention and treatment." In Natural Compounds in Cancer Therapy, the chapter on Trace Metals states, "At least 35 in-vitro studies have reported that selenium produces cytotoxic effects on a variety of cancer cell lines. At least 20 studies have reported that selenium produced antitumor effects in animals." And, among the most interesting, is Brian S. Peskin's work suggesting that a specific combination of omega-6 and omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) -- now referred to as Parent Essential Oils -- can be effective in preventing cancer. See http://www.townsendletter.com/AugSept2007/bookpeskin0807.htm Quercetin, too, may be beneficial. See http://www.cancer.org/docroot/ETO/content/ETO_5_3x_Quercetin.asp.
