I lost 110 pounds eleven years ago eating the suggested foods. I had something to eat about every 3 hours. By the end of the day I usually had 20 fruit & vegetable servings. My fiber intake was well over 50 grams a day. I still eat the same way, & have been able to maintain that weight loss.

Yes, this does work I did about 35 myself on this method. I don't do diets. But I did watch my portions, drank mostly water, ate healthy snacks, ditched minor things that you can't really taste anyhow like mayo, cheese on sandwhiches, lighter dressings, grilled chicken instead of fried. If I wanted dessert I just ate a bite from each of my kids. Two bites is what I got to satisfy my craving. If you don't satisfy it on occassion you can go rabid if you see a piece of chocolate cake and then it all goes wild from there. Oh, for my personal health I also gave up almost all dairy. I did flip over a package and read a label as you'd be surprised what they sneak into foods. I just educated myself on products, but never added up foods and numbers. In fact I ate a lot of good fats/calories, raw nuts and avacados are my favorite almost daily foods. The trick is to eat. Most dieters starve themselves. Your body will not burn fuel if it does not have the fuel to burn. My body stored food as it was feast or famine. I had to train it to start releasing the stored foods to be burned. 5-6 small meals that are sensible is key.

OMG! a few pieces of decent advice, BUT to eat cheese, lowfat string cheese or parmasean, and tofu. ARE YOU KIDDING!!! how can you universally advise people to eat those things, cheese can be the cause of all sorts of problems with people, try goat cheese if you want to eat cheese. And tofu contains estrogen, so not too sure men should eat it. Please view articles on yahoo by Dr. Mao if you want legitimate expert advice on how to eat healthy, and the pounds will fall off.

I've battled weight control all of my life. This sounds like it would be easier than some of the other plans I've tried. Crash diets don't work, and they are dangerous. Eat less, but at the same time eat enough. You don't want to starve yourself. I'll have to take these suggestions and see if they will work for me!

I am a nurse practitioner and work in a medical weight management clinic. You gave very easy and useful suggestions to help with weight loss which I will share with my patients. I think one of the hardest things to get people to do when managing weight problems is to journal or keep a diary and the people who travel frequently for their jobs also have a hard time managing their weight.

Very helpful and informative. I really was inspired about using the salad plate and dividing it into four sections, covering half with vegetables, etc. I am going to try this approach. I am currently trying to loose weight and eat healthy. Thanks for the tips.

If I had followed your advice instead of the medical experts forty years ago, I would not have gotten fat. As a U.S. Marine combat veteran I spent my last five months in the hospital. My weight went from 190 lbs to 230 under strict supervision. Every time I went on another supervised regimen I lost 20-25 lbs and gained back 40-50 without changing my eating. Of course, I had to be cheating! But I wasn't. Following rules similar to yours took me from 315 to 270, and I expect to lose more sanely. Thanks for your tips.

I think that Elaine W's idea sounds interesting. I know that China has done many studies on this. Maybe I'll look it up and read upon it some.

You know, I really like peanutbutter. The problem is I like it too much. I wonder if there is a way to reduce the cravings of this??? I don't even crave sweets as much as I do peanubutter. Maybe some of you may have some suggestions!!???

Almond butter is better for you than peanut butter and tastes better to me, especially if it is mixed with a little local honey.
