Since the abs whether obliques, transverse or rectus are trunk flexors, and it would require hip flexors to bring the legs/knees to the chest and hip extensors to bring the leg/knees back down. What purpose does bringing the knees to chest accomplish other than overdeveloping the hip flexors (mainly psoas) which is already an adaptively shortened and tight muscle to begin with

You know it's stories like these that make people believe that they can get away with doing the same exercises for the rest of their lives. Bicycle crunches are a great exercise and they do work your obliques and abs, but they work your rectus abdominus not your transverse (which is important for balance). Not that it matters because it only takes your body 3-4 weeks to learn an exercise and render it all but ineffective. This is called the General Adaptation Syndrome. Even if you continue to make the exercise harder by adding weight from a med ball or dumbell you'll still adapt and plateau. Exercise routines need variety. People need variety too.

Asinine article. "Tone" is a euphemism for low body fat. You don't need to buy any magazines for that.

Yes, the supine bicycle is an outstanding abdominal exercise. Ensure that you FOCUS on form and not the speed of your movement. Correct form and tempo will yield noticeable gains.

Well, I am a hard gainer & studied nutrition on my own. Everybody is different, but there are key elements that work for everyone. Nutirion, drink water not soft drinks, take a couple basic supplements, high fiber diet, more balance of fiber vs. meat(s). It takes alot of time to sculpt the body for someone like me so I entertain myself with music when working out. I think this 5-minute abs sends the wrong message but it does give people something to look into.
