I agree 100%. There are times when I haven't been getting my 8 hrs of sleep per night. I immediately noticed the difference when I went back to getting a full 8 or close to it. I felt better throughout the day and saw an immediate increase in muscle mass. At first I was thinking am I gaining weight but after doing a body fat test my weight gain was attributed to a gain in muscle mass and a decrease in body fat. So people do what you can to get a full nights rest. Mentally you'll be more productive in a shorter amount of time and the benefits of workouts will achieved.

If in today's high eductaional atmosphere, I am terrified that people STILL DO NOT KNOW WHAT makes you FAT!! ANd sleeping more is NOT THE answer. I know plenty of fat people who sleep way too much, nap after they eat, and gorge themselves before bedtime. The ONLY WAY to stay slim is to eat the right foods, more than 40 minutes a day of rigorous exercise (including sexual activity, which burns about 400 calries an hour of intercourse), and ample rest -6-8 hours a night for most. God....everyone want to thin without cutting out cookies, sodas, tons of fatting meats, and fast food addictions. I have never seen so many fat children, teens and yound adults in any other country like the fat americans. Why is that?

Now I know why I have packed on the extra pounds. Since I returned to graduate school full-time, working full-time, and raising a teenaged daughter I have not had more than 3 to 4 hours of sleep. Thank you so much for this information. I will be sleeping more.

I now realize that when I was working, and had know life of my own, that this is why I gained back what I lost.I was over 200 lbs.I lost all of it took me a year. Then I went to work, was great fun because it was a garden center. After a couple of years I realized I gained a few lbs,so I quickly became watchful of eating habits, but not sleep. After three years I decided to leave my job for a better life at home and with my family. So to sum it up You maybe very right,I worked sometimes very long and stressful hours little sleep but lots of excersie,I still gained. Now at 61 I am fighting to lose the 50lbs I gained. So food for thought less stress and more rest can help you lose those lbs,I am so liking this.

This is very true. I have a friend that is battling her weight, but struggles with getting enough sleep. She has now come to the realization that she must get sleep to lose the weight she wants to lose. This ia great article.
