Okay. This makes a lot of sense; people do eat too fast, and being reminded to slow down, relax, and maybe drink a bit of red wine with dinner is excellent advice! Nevertheless, wouldn't you agree that the editor's recipe at the end invalidates everything healthy about saving 70 calories per meal? I mean, baking might be good therapy, but "dig in?" Please. The addition of that recipe was self-serving and inappropriate. There are plenty of baking recipes that do not use sugar as their main ingredient, that are also healthy and lower in calories. Bad choice, editor.

Ohhh Myyyy GOD!!!!! Give me this woman’s job to tell you the obvious. I just read the Ten Years Younger article, and tried to give her another chance, and this one was no better. Yes everyone should know to chew your food slowly, if you do that you will get full faster VS gulfing down food until it is gone. Remember "You should chew your food 20-50 times before swallowing". I remember that as a kid. Tell me something new. The rule hit me after I had my daughter and I would make a plate for us. I would feed her some and eat some myself, feed her and then eat some myself, and what I found out was I would be full without eating the whole plate. That is because I took the time to eat "slowly" and got full with less food.

Thanks for the reminder. In our fast world we sometimes need to be reminded of what is obvious. Only then does it register. Can the sugar be replaced with Splenda?

"When you've had a bad day, cooking can have a calming effect".. ???????WRONG!!! When I've had a bad day, the last thing I want to do is go in the kitchen and cook! A banana with peanut butter or a bowl of cereal maybe....better yet, take me out to eat.....but PLEASE, after a bad day, don't ask me to go in the kitchen and start cooking because, then, on top of having had a bad day, I'll for sure be in a bad mood....but then I don't like to cook, anyway. What would actually calm me down, believe it or not, would be to have someone else cook the meal and I'll gladly wash the dishes. You cook......I'll wash.........

It's great advice and all, but did you guys ever wonder that this Lucy Danziger is not even a doctor or a nutritionist....she is an editor of a magazine. I am sorry to say this but she is not qualified to give any advice on the matter.

Nothing new here!! Plus, the ridiculous recipe using 2 CUPS of sugar?????? Definitely, she shouldn't be trying to pass that along for being healthier!

Eating slow has more benefits then just taking in fewer calories. Think socializing with friends and family, less stress, preventing indigestion and improving digestion and so on. Even though there are quite some negative comments, I still think it's a good thing to remind people to eat slow.

A breathing technique to slow down your eating? Just release the food from your hands inbetween bites. It's not that traumatic or difficult. Don't pick up the next bite of food until you're done chewing what's in your mouth. And hold the commentary while you're chewing your food! Nobody wants to hear you much less see you speak with a mouthful of food. It not only gluttonous, it's obnoxious. If people actually had good manners at the table, an article like this wouldn't have been necessary to write. Eating slowly might be elementary advice but not enough people are actually practicing it.
