Great list of good for you foods! Except, celery; I only use it in tuna sandwiches, and sparingly.

I'm so glad to see people talking about nutrition as the basics of a healthy lifestyle. It needs to be part of our national health plan

Hi, My name is Betty, I am not a youngster any more, but I try to stay in Shape.I work out every day on my Gazelle. I eat foods that are rich in antioxidents, including Black Tea, Green Tea, Rasberry Tea, and any Iced tea. Cherries Jubulie, and Peaches, Apples, and Pears... Fresh Vegetables and fruits keep you healthy.....So do Whole Grains...I love Cabbabe and Cauliflower, with Cheese, and Bricolli,Corn on the Cob, and Yellow Squash. and Chicken or Fish instead of Beef. Also in the Summer me and my Husband eat lots of Salads....with Lettuce and Cucumbers, and Black Olives, and whatever else we can think of...Pickles, Sweet Relish, Eggs, Cheese, and Crutons....Salads make you full, and have very few calories. They help you stay slim... Remember Staying healthy is not all about what you eat...You must also Get Enough Sleep, and enough Exercise. Here's to your health....

Excellent information. I love snacking on these foods already and didn't realize the benefits. Now I'll eat more of them.

No food or anything else will increase a human's lifespan. They might however extend life expectancy.

This bugs me, not because it isn't right, but because it places some fruits and veggies above others. Broccoli, brussel sprouts, apples, bananas, grapefruit, butternut squash... even the lowly onion is very good for you. The health benefits are endless. Eat a variety and often.

There are lots of food out there that are good for you that have antioxidants besides these, folks. Most of your berry groups have antioxidants as well as carrots, all of the mushroom family. Whole grain foods like your whole grain breads and cereals are great sources for antioxidants as well as 1 cup of black coffee per day too. If you have a time, chewing seeds...crush them up in a food processor until it is a right consistancy. Spinkle on ice cream, salads or your favorite chocolate cakes or pies. That reminds me...chocolate also has antioxidants in it too...the dark kind. So eat up and be healthy!

@letty: Remember you need to control portions, because all foods give your body energy, and if you don't use that energy, you gain weight. /rant Mushrooms are not plants, they are a fungus. Fungi also have those fibers as part of their cell wall, it's one of the things that sets them apart from plants. I don't know why the author felt the need to quote a study from a particular University, except that "studies show that saying 'stuides show' before whatever BS you are trying to promote greatly increases the chance of someone believing what you say."

And as far as the celery...its good stuffed with pimento cheese, chicken salad, or peanut butter. Celery is also good for arthritis (RA) too. Celery is also great in chicken salad, tuna salad, and potato salads too. What a great crunch and or flavor, celery can give to a meal!

I love food advice where they promote a food or spice, and say it "may" do something. If it isn't confirmed to do something, conclusively, you shouldn't even be buzzing about it in the media. Look at all these drugs that "may" stop this condition that "may" cause this disease. Results "may" vary. Manufacturer "may" change documentation, ingredients, price, or criteria at any time. When you use "may", you are being intentionally misleading. Don't accept "may", hold out for a sure thing.

For the one who doesn't like any of the suggested foods: you are not alone! So many people just don't have the taste for what their body really really really needs. There are amazing supplements out there so you can get your nutrition without suffering through endless spoonfulls of food you hate. I use Vital Fruits which is a liquid supplement. You take one ounce of it in the morning and it delivers your daily requirement of antioxidants. From this list, you will knock off the cherries and the pomegranate (there are 20 total super fruits in Vital Fruits) and you will also get Resveratrol (huge bonus!). Tastes good too!
