I disagree about the 1st one for regular folks. My cardinal rule has always been "the exercise you do is better than the exercise you don't do." The average person starts up an exercise program, kicks their butt on it too much, gets sick of it, then quits after a few days. It's better to do something you know you'll do. Go to the gym only 30 minutes and do only 2 upper body and 2 lower body exercises. That's it. However, DO IT EACH DAY. It's quick. It's simple. And because of that it leads to consistency. Add in 15 minutes of cardio later on, like a jog around the block or a bike ride or playing soccer with an intramural team. Do what you love. Once you get into better shape and build consistency, then you can start to push yourself. But pushing yourself from the start can be too much of a system shock for most folks. That, and the realization that to eat clean will take a lot more time in food prep than ordering pizza or heating up junk food in the microwave. I think too many folks bite off more than they can chew and expect immediate results. They don't see it, but they do see how much of a pain it can be. If you want to push yourself to have a gruelling work out schedule, then that's good for you. But the average person doesn't. They want the privilage of looking good with out the responsibility. If you're smart, you can look good with minimal effort. It just takes consistency. Do your 30 minute weight work outs. Do your 15-30 minutes cardio. Find ways to eat clean that are convenient. There will, of course, be sacrifice (no pizza, having to hit the gym when others are hitting the bar, etc). But how you look and feel is better than anything you will ever put in your mouth.

And, you shouldnt work out each day! Your muscles need recovery time, if you dont have enough recovery time you lose more muscle than youll gain and you will plateau real quickly.

I agree on recovery tome IF you are doing a workout that requires it. Lower intensity cardio and low-weight high-rep lifting does not require much recovery time, usually 1-2 days per week. The best way to tell if you need a recovery day is to take your resting heart rate when you wake up. If it's 10-15 beats higher than normal, take the day off.
