I find this entry helpful, but I really can't go without my Diet Coke. I get terrible headaches if I don't get my daily amount of caffeine (the kinds that make you understand why cavemen drilled holes in their skull when their heads hurt, and that make you think: "mhm, maybe that's an idea" when somebody shows how a guillotine works and notes "Poof, no more headache") and I really, really don't like coffee... Why is drinking diet soda such a no-no? I will be going off caffeine during summer break, when I can afford to be crazy with headaches, because it's a rather unhealthy addiction, but it really isn't something I can give up just yet, college is too demanding. Will this really affect my weight-loss?

Even though there is not definite proof, there has been suggestions that diet soda can cause insulin resistance. I'm a type ii dietabetic, so obviously regular soda was out, but i loved and couldn't live without my diet pepsi. Within one week of cutting down my diet soda intake, my blood sugars were lower than they have been in a while, and I actually was able to cut back on my insulin injections. High or uncontrolled blood sugars can lead to everything from neuropathy to heart risks to blindness. It may not be something that affects you "weight" per say... but healthwise, it's definitely something to think about, as I'm sure we all know there are thin, yet VERY unhealthy people out there.

good read and easy to follow with regards to 'diet' drinks et al one of the main issues with them is the sodium content - this makes the body retain fluids and plays havoc with your electrolytes... green tea after meals is meant to have great properties for balancing

carb portions at breakfast and lunch with NO carbs at night make sure you get your required protein - i have issues with this as i can't eat that much meat so we're now eating tofu or leguimes at night with great effect don't forget your min. 8 glasses of water / day helps :)

All common good sense really if you think about it, it really shouldn't be all that hard. Be sensible about what you eat, be sensible about how active you are and have a day off to look forward to once a week. All sounds pretty good to me!!

any kind of sodas even if diet can slow down one's metabolism. why not try green tea instead, though it contains caffeine but not as much as in coffee and coke.

i am trying to lose weight. nice tips. but due to my legs problems i am going to be doing 1/2 hour aerobics everyday only. on most of the websites it says 1/2 exercises everyday is sufficient. :)

Great advice! I've cut down my coke zero to half a can every couple of days - just so I have something tasty to drink with lunch. It's sped up my metabolism heaps and I don't feel as bloated after lunch anymore! There's nothing worse than a restricive diet! Eat healthy and exercise! Worked for me!
