I really like this game plan, I usually crave food at night and sometimes I go into food attack mode, next time I feel it coming on, I'm throwing my mp3 player on and rocking out, if it's nice outside I'll take a bottle of water and go for a walk, I don't want to "binge" after I have been good to my body. Now what DO I do about the hunger I get after working out? Is that just my metabolism needing more fuel, because after a hard workout, I swear I'm starving!

Late-night snacking is a big problem. I deal with it by making a hot cup of herbal tea. It keeps my hands busy, and to sip it slowly keeps me occupied, and away from that snack.

Great information here. To Jeanie M - yes, your body is telling you it needs to re-fuel! I'm not saying you can eat an enormous amount of food, but look up post-workout snacks or meals on the web, and you'll get the idea. I like half an english muffin with peanut butter and banana slices - that gives me some protein to feed my muscles, potassium to help with soreness, and a serving of grains. Remember - you can eat too few calories too. You don't have to deprive yourself, especially when you're active. You've got the active part down, now learn everything you can about nutrition for your fabulous active body!

This article had some great advice and ways to recognize habits you may not have realized you had. Whenever I have a craving I sit down and try to process why I'm feeling the way I am - usually I crave the comfort food and chocolate and I'm anxious. I have put dark chocolate in the freezer (so I don't stumble upon them and eat it all for when I need a sweet bite, and my husband does a great job of (lovingly) keeping me accountable. If we focus on sitting down and eating together and talking about our day, then we re less likely to stress and worry, and then eat because of emotions. We have also turned off our tv - we only watch movies with it. It's amazing how much time we have, how we use the time for eating better instead of mindlessly munching away!!

I drink the my tea in measured in "pots" then cups and I also drink "bottles" of water then glasses...... That curbs that craving good by the time I killed the pot the cravings are gone. But if it's still there I take a peice of fruit.

Hi Gabby, I do believe you have somenthing going here. I am a naturalist at heart.... caught up in the routine of big city life...all this to make a living and bring up the family. I am like a voice in the wilderness... crying out for everyone to get off and check out where they are heading... Your insightful comments have just about opened up my family's eyes to the obvious... we need to de-stress... big time. Thanks... keep up the good work. Colin

I 'm very impressed to read the articles they are so helpful especially with this century most of us lived in a run, like myself II have a small business then every day I have to watch my clock to fullfill all my tasks for that day....So my advice is do not getting into business unless you have an honest partner , that way you can have some time off....for yourself... Sincerely, Kim

First of all the statement that restrained eaters who consume no more than 1000 calories a day are not thinner than those with normal caloric intake is just asinine. When I hear something so foolish, I cant even read any further. How could I take it seriously.

OMG another volley ball player that is a Yahoo "Expert". These opinion pieces should not be stated as fact. Any one off the street can write something like this. Statements about 1000 calorie dieters should either be backed up with study references or at least ad "in my experience" or I believe" to these. So you want to control cravings? There are only two ways to beat them. The first is wait or change your location. That means if you can resist the impulse for a few minutes or get far away from it you have a shot at winning. The second way is to give in slightly. That means eating a controlled portion very slowly. Don't eat the slice of cake in 30 seconds but take 5 minutes and enjoy every gram of it.
